Clothes sizing?

Just wondering if anyone's child actually wears the right clothing size for their age. My DD's (aged 9) are in age 11-12 clothes and are by no means the biggest in their class. Having looked at age 9 clothes, I don't think I know a 9 year old they would fit. Does anyone else find this?

my dd is 4 today she has gone to pre school in a pair of age 4 trs, and 18-24month top (which is a bit big) and an age 7 coat. when i go shopping for clothes for her i measure them rather than looking at the size, if i buy her size i almost always have to take them back.

My dd will be 7 in december, and quite tall(129cm last time I checked). Not particularly skinny. Her last lot of clothes are mainly aged 9-10 and 3 tops are 11-12 For skirts, I have to buy long (supposedly mid calf) aged 4-5, and they fit her waist perfectly and come to her knees.

I have to take in all her trousers, but loving that leggings are in cause they fit just fine

dd is just 2 and all her trous are 2-3s with the cuffs rolled up. Her favourite cardigan is 12-18m and has a lot of room left, but when her great-aunt knitted her a cardigan for her birthday it needed 2yo lentgh arms but 4yo size chest. Yesterday's tshirt was age 4.

Liek Nancy I use a tape measure to see if things will fit rtaher than the size, but once I have cracked it I buy multiples (eg all thsoe Next 2-3 roll-up trous)

My 7 year old wears clothes for a 6 year old and my 4 year old wears clothes for a 3 year old... but I'm never told that they're small for their ages. I think they're slightly above average. ONly slightly. But my kids have always been wearing clothes for year below.

UNLESS boden, and then I have to send it back for being too small!!

Good to know I'm not the only one. When mine were littler, I used to dress them in skirts a lot as I got more wear out of them. They started off as long skirts and ended up as minis.

Leggings are easier to fit. I've just had a nightmare trying to find skinny jeans for one of mine.

i tried buying mutiples, i got 2 dresses in debenhams , the same but different colours, 1 fits her, the other one was about 2 sizes too big!

Yes DS1 goes in shorts 12-18mo (he is 3.8) in summer as he has tiny hips but normal/long legs and nothing fits properly.

FernieB!! I do that too. You can get three years out of a skirt with an elasticated waist

FernieB · 01/10/2009 15:53

Maggie - It's amazing how long they can last! I've also done this with leggings - start off as full length and end up as cropped!

DS1 (4.2) wears 2-3 trousers 3-4/4-5 tops. Except vertaudet stuff, for which he needs 5-6
