Hi need to find cheap nappies. Most are really dear. He wears them all day so we use a lot.
Also he does not like telling me when he needs changing
Thanks

Why are people giving the OP such a hard time??

silv77 · 26/09/2009 21:17

he has a care worker for him Look after him. But of late hes been useing more nappies. Seem to run out faster. And they leak as well. So i thought if i could find some good ones by my self.

I don't think everyone is. I am certainly amazed that the OP does not seem to have any support in place or know how to access the help her son needs and is entitled to. I think if she has been left without help then that is unacceptable and she needs to challenge it.

However, there is a troll who pops up from time to time, with a fetish about bodily functions and people who have come across that person are a bit suspicious of someone who hasn't posted before, coming up with something that fits that, and not answering questions or giving information. that's why people are asking op questions. OP can answer them or not, her choice, but people would be more willing / able to help with more information supplied.

Oh good, you do have support. I was thinking that you are on your own! That's good.

I really think the best thing would be to go to social services / gp and see what alternatives are available. there can't be only one type available, surely?

pagwatch · 26/09/2009 21:25

Caz
because it sounded odd.
People with children with SN almost always know that they are entitled to help with personal care including free nappies from the age of about 4.
The OP sounded like the poster had no idea aboutthis and had suddenly found herself with a 22 years old with issues - which is unlikely( although of course not impossible)

And it wouldn't be the first time someone has found this a hilarious thing to post a question about. It is one of the reasons SN is on a less obvious board.

But OP has explained and has had helpful responses.

LatinDAISYcal · 26/09/2009 21:25

what about investing in some reuseable cloth ones? Nappies by Minki do continence care products. Maybe worth talking to them as they offer a bespoke sevice. I know they aren't cheap, but will probably save you £££ in the long term.

sorry to hear about your DS's condition

mwff · 26/09/2009 21:26

as a nappy seller i've dealt with phone calls that start with queries about adult children in nappies and then turn weird, so i can understand if posters request a little more information before engaging.

LatinDAISYcal · 26/09/2009 21:27

and at the regular troll hecate.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 26/09/2009 21:28

Oh yes. There are some sick bastards out there.

The worst part of it is how suspicious it makes people. Because those who are genuine cop it. And that is horrible.

silv77 · 26/09/2009 21:29

Hes had all types of therapy from
psychologists, speech therapists, physical therapists and occupational therapists. At the same time me and teachers
Hes a 22 year old with a mind of a smell child or toddler.
Just latley his nappies are becomming a bit of a problem.

Goober · 26/09/2009 21:38

Reality.
My thoughts exactly.

silv77 · 26/09/2009 21:40

Yes ill give it a go. Like i said i did get some free nappies before but. They arnt that good of late. The ones that i found on the net. Are very dear and have less in the pack. Just need to find a good nappy. Which not cost that much. And have a lot in a pack

Thanks for your help

OP posts:
HecatesTwopenceworth · 26/09/2009 21:41

His DLA should cover the cost, shouldn't it?

silv77 · 26/09/2009 21:51

ill have to look in to it. I just thought that someone might know of a good make of nappy where theres lots in a pack.
Thanks

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 26/09/2009 21:54

how many would you like in a pack? what kind of cost?
have you tried searching google already?

i'd def have a think about re-usable ones as long as yuo don't mind washing them? it would be more expensive to start with but you'd save money in the long run

LynetteScavo · 26/09/2009 21:57

I'm not buying this, sorry.

silv77 · 26/09/2009 21:59

About 50 he uses between 10 to 20 nappies a day for 10 pound

louii · 26/09/2009 22:03

Seriously if he is going through that many a day there is soemthing not right, i am a nurse and have looked after many many incontinent people, even someone who would hold there urine all day and their Incontinence product would still hold it all.

Is this thread a joke?

ElectricElephant · 26/09/2009 22:04

I'm wondering if English isn't your first language, and that's why you can't explain things properly and why people may think you're a troll.

Just saying.

cheesesarnie · 26/09/2009 22:05

if the ones hes prescribed arent working for him,why havent you brought this up with gp/care worker/ss?
with my mil we had to try lots of different ones which ment we kept going back but they were very helpful.
