Low 'highchair'

We live in a small house, and have a small kitchen and no dining room. Therefore me and DH eat off of trays in the living room.

DD is 8.5 weeks, and I'm starting to think ahead to when she's weaning in the New Year.

All highchairs I've come across are just that...high! I want her to be able to sit with us in the living room so we can eat together as a family, but having her in a highchair when we're at sofa-level seems silly.

I was wondering if anyone had come across a low version, so she's still as secure and has a tray in front of her, but at a lower level?

I don't want to spend a fortune, so it may well be easier to buy a bog standard high chair and a cheap folding chair for me/DH to sit on...? But I though I'd see if such a thing exists first.

Any ideas anyone?

the chicco polly goes quiet low but its massive and a nightmare to clean and I wouldn't touch it again, but you need something similar with adjustable height

You can get wooden low/high chairs that turn into a table and chair set which are good value for money,i had one for ds which we bought second hand.

I have one from mama and papas a prima pappa that slides down to sofa height.

How are you intending to wean? baby led or purees? I ask because we are in a similar situation. We have just bought a thing called a super seat. Its quite similar to a bumbo but with a circular "Play tray" that goes all the way round. It is floor level so could be good for baby lead weaning but will give you a bit of a back ache for purees!!

ds is 8 so it is a while ago but we had a graco highchair that did different heights and the seat leant backwords.
was great when sat on the sofa to feed and if he went to sleep after a feed u would just lay him back.
bought a highchair from mothercare for dd who is 4 that was similar but not as good

I would agree that the ones that eventually turn into a table and chair are good. My mum tends to eat in the front room and she has one for when DD is round, and it works perfectly, and is flexible so that now she is older she can use it as a table and chair.

I would get one of those little wooden tables and a wooden chair that has a pole that sticks up between their legs - nurseries use them all the time - you could pop in to your local one and have a look.

The wooden table / chair combo can be bought at John Lewis, IKEA and Argos. I have one as live in a similar set up to yours but the JL ones I can vouch, are a PITA to clean. I have to hose mine down once a week in the garden.

I would go with a bumbo or similar with tray for when she is small and then you can get a mini table and chair for when she is bigger. My dd is 15 months and we have just got her the leksvik table and chair from Ikea. Its the right height that I can sit on the sofa and eat at the table with her which is lovely. Although she is 15 months up until we got this she was still using the bumbo and it was fine for her, although she is starting to get a little bit big for it now.
