Question about baby bouncers

I'm talking about the deck-chair type seats where the baby can bounce him or herself a bit, not the type that you hang from a door frame or similar. I've seen a few that you can fold down to almost horizontal.

My (noob) question is - are these seats ok for a baby to sleep in?

We're trying to make a list of things that we'll need for our baby and places to sleep are obviously quite important. She'll have a cot in her nursery, a small bed that attaches to our bed in our bedroom - but we'll also need something downstairs.

Is a baby bouncer suitable? Or will we need another 'proper' bed for downstairs too?

My son sleeps in his bouncy chair sometimes. He never sleeps in it for long, though.

Why do you need a bed downstairs? Why can't you put her in her cot and turn on a monitor?

DD and ds slept in them on occasion but I wouldnt have relied on that being the only place to nap downstairs. DD slept in the reclined buggy downstairs and ds slept in the carry cot bit of his travel system. (didnt have a carry cot bit for dd)

My lo's didnt go up in the cot during the day until they were about 4 months old.

I found the pram really good for daytime sleeps - it's flat for the baby to sleep comfortably, can be moved around easily and if you need to go out you're all ready to go.

Try not to - we tried and DD hardly ever slept in it, hated me trying to put her down in it, and then went off pram too and then was nap resistent. Try and put DC down for sleeps in pram or carry cot downstairs if yoU can important that she associates sleep wth the right environment IMHO and from experience - the chair can be for awake times. Our DD never ever bounced in her bouncy chair! Hope all goes well for you

Oh, I never even thought of the carry cot / pram :S

Tee2072 - good question! The answer is that I don't know. I'm totally inexperienced with this kind of thing!! Which is why I love this website

My DD slept a lot in her bouncy chair for the first couple of months. Not on purpose. I'd just set her up in it while I did chores in the kitchen. She was happy because she could see me and bounce herself. Added to that the white noise of whatever appliance I had going at the time (washing machine/dishwasher/tumble drier), soon put her off in a doze. Did put her up in the cot for proper naps though, just ensured she was aware it was different to night time sleep by not putting her in the blankets/sleeping bag, setting the mobile and laying the other way round to how I would at night time ie feet facing the door

You should get a moses basket. They sleep flat in those and you can carry it round the house to wherever you're going to be. I think (but someone may correct me) that it's better for a developing newborn to be sleeping flat on it's back.

Or as Tee said, is to put the baby in the cot and have a monitor?
