I can't believe it, My daughter has come home from her first day at school with a blob of what I think is perminant marker pen on her blowse. I've tried washing powder, stain remover and neet bleech. Nothing will get it out.
They are quite expencive shirts as you have to buy them from the school.
Does anyone know of anything else I can try?

It's probably those whiteboard marker pens.

You need to think "solvent" - try dabbing with nail varnish remover or some kind of neat alcohol , failing that maybe white spirit?

It might be worth investing in a No.3 Stain Devil - does anyone know if it works on whiteboard marker?.

Ponders · 03/09/2009 20:26

I think the answer is in the word "permanent" I'm afraid, mll

Just tell her to be more careful in future.

I've used the stain devil and it didnt touch permanent marker pen so I wouldn't waste your money

The stain devil ink remover worked for me but only if you use it before the initial wash. One washed it's there forever more

Get your dds to wear pinafores for as many years as possible IMO

ChasingSquirrels · 03/09/2009 23:35

just a fact of school life, you get pissed off about it - and then you learn to ignore it. They will all be the same.

just put a dab of bleach and then wash it off after about 30 seconds....or try cif.
I have also found that white colgate toothpaste gets lots of stains out including curry

CarGirl · 03/09/2009 23:46

bleach doesn't work on it. I soaked ours in dilute bleach for hours, then dried in the sun for days - nada still there!

alypaly · 03/09/2009 23:49

try it concentrated...it will either work or put a hole in it...move the pocket if desperate

CarGirl · 03/09/2009 23:52

Think I tried it neat too! It did fade a little.

Solution is to buy very cheap tops IME

mummyloveslucy · 04/09/2009 19:30

Thanks everyone. She was even wearing a pinafore at the time. It's on the front near the coller. Oh well, I'll try these things and if it dosn't come out it might fade in time.

letraset.com

they sell ink removers

mathanxiety · 04/09/2009 19:51

Embroider over it in white? Have you tried hairspray or does this just work for ballpoint ink?

RoryGilmore · 04/09/2009 19:55

Acetone moves permanent marker (nail varnish remover)

soak it, it should work

blithedance · 05/09/2009 08:38

Yes I think I splashed on a big dollop of nail varnish remover, let it soak well, then spot washed with a Vanish Bar, then washed as normal.

boundarybabe · 05/09/2009 12:50

Am I the only one who would just accept the blouse has now got a black mark on it? I'm such a slattern

Ponders · 05/09/2009 13:54

No, you're not, bb - I would too (& did, many times )
