People who dress their DCs in the same clothes...

Could you please answer some nosy questions? I only know one person who does this IRL and I don't know her well enough to ask!
When did you start? From the birth of DC2? Or do you wait until they're in 'outfits'?
What if one of them gets dirty- do you change both?
How do you manage to have 2 lots of clean matching clothes every day?
What if one of them grows out of something before the other- does the other one have to stop wearing his/her 'version' of the outfit?
What if they suit different colours?
And what happens when the older one says they don't want to match their little brother/sister anymore. Do you insist?

And finally, erm, why do you do it?

Sorry about all the questions, I've been wondering about this for ages.

Mine have occasionally had a matching item -- usually when dh gets given promotional kids' T-shirts from a sponsor or an exhibitor or somthing. Once I bought dd1 and dd2 matching hoodies cos they were with me in the shop and both wanted one. They loved those hoodies and wore them a lot, though not always at the same time. We've also had various sets of those striped lamby fleeces that Mini Boden used to do, and again there have been times when the children have gone out in matching ones. But it's not instigated by me, tbh. When outgrown the stuff just got passed down the family.

But I think you're after more hardcore matchers than that.

I have twin boys and dress them the same. I don't give a flying hoot what others thing about it. When children go to school they wear a school uniform so they are all dressed the same so what is the big deal?

I do it because it makes my life easier. When they are older, they will have more say in what they wear but until then, I will do what makes my life easier and don't see why I should be expected to explain myself, especially as it is nobody elses business.

The boys could not care less about what they wear and that is all that matters.

I have one ds and another on the way, ds2 will end up wearing allot of ds1's wearable hand me downs (as well as new items also), but i may get them a few matching T-shirts, jumpers etc. I think it can look really sweet. But not to an obsessive level Just the odd top here and there!

spokette I think its a unwritten rule that twins wear the same, i wouldn't expect anything else really!

Sometimes buy my dss the same t shirts, I think they look "nice" dressed the same, although ds1 (9) rebels by wearing his a day after his younger bro!

Hmm, I know loads of twins and in every case they have always been dressed differently (whether biologically identical or not)

I think its more of an effort/unusual to match siblings with a say 2 year age gap like mine will have. Takes allot more thought/will than just getting two of everything when shopping for clothes.

But Spokette, sorry if I offended you, but I didn't expect you to 'explain yourself'- I was just wondering about the logistics. I don't really see how it does make life easier, hence all the questions. I have enough trouble finding fairly clean colour-coordinating clothes for 1 child, the idea of finding an identical (also clean) 2nd outfit for another would be just about impossible!

The logistic of doing it is not difficult. The boys always get food on their clothes, or miss the toilet or have a leak so the clothes have to be washed anyway.

I go into Asda and pick up two of everything. That way I don't need to think about what to dress them in. The boys don't care and until they do, I will carry on.

Cat64, your daughter laughed because she has no manners. Concentrate on teaching some and worry less about others wear.

Surely you can still buy two of everything and not dress them in it at the same time?

I struggle to find the enthusiasm for matching socks tbh, let alone matching up children.

Wasn't this practice more common in days gone by by the rich to show that they could afford not to pass clothes down to younger siblings? I'm thinking of pictures of Princesses Elizbeth and Margaret wearing the same stuff. may Harry & Wills too.

I've hardly seen it recently, but I suppose with cheap clothes etc at supermarkets it's do-able. I think though it requires a level of organisation and like mindedness amongst the children for it to be feasible so it's nothing I'll ever achieve.

But surely say if its a sunny day, they are both going to be wearing shorts and a t-shirt anyway, not all t-shirts match up well with the shorts. There are set that match up well why not wear the same?

Same with most outfits must saves allot of time rather than thinking out what will look nice on two children dressing for the same situation. Makes allot of sense to me!

Flamesparrow, that would require more decision making to decide who will wear what. It is easier to make a decision about one outfit than two.

The boys only have about 6 outfits and like me, they don't care for clothes and long make it continue.

I've never seen twins dressed identically and I know a lot of them I must admit! However me and my two sisters (15+ months between each) were dressed in the same things all of the time when we were younger, and my Mum had an embarrassing fashion sense! (tight blue flowery leggings and bright orange shirt combos for example, though it was the 90's!)

I really hate those pictures of me and my sisters when we were younger, especially as, being the middle, I'd always be wearing the same as one of them, whilst one of them would be let off from time to time [shakes head]

mine often look matching- but then again its usually jeans and a white t-shirts (jeans because they are hard wearing and white t-shirts because they get chucked in the bleach bucket) I've got 4 boys to buy for- and i do tend to get 4 of everything in the relevent sizes. Mine wreck their clothes- not much chance of hand me downs these days

I do have pyjama ocd though- they HAVE to match every night [weird]

Good point, Spokette, only one decision to make on an outfit each day.

I'm with you on the socks, Flamesparrow. Next time DS needs socks he is having 7 identical pairs!

I don't understand why people get wound up about this. Children wear school uniforms, nurses wear uniforms, shopworkers in supermarkets wear uniforms etc. Are their identities compromised or eroded? No.

This is a lot of fuss about nothing.

my mum used to dress me and my sisters alike.at the time we hated being the same but my cousin recently told us that she was really jealous .
a few months ago my 3 sisters came over to mine and suprise suprise aged 31,29,22 and 21 we were all dressed more or less the same-not on purpuse obviously and not the tartan skirts our mum used to dress us in

I have dressed my eldest 2 in matching outfits when they were both under 5. There are 2 years between them so were often into same thing.Now even if I bought them same clothes they wouldn't wear them at same time and haven't since the eldest was about 5.I do think twins or even girls are different though, and it should be up to them. babies look cute in matching outfits though!

Guess I just have freakish clothes that don't tend to clash hideously - I grab some shorts, grab a t-shirt and that is about all the thought process that happens.

I don't often buy things as "outifts" though anyway.
