If one was a control freak how do you stop/cope when your children get to their teens - the thought of not being in control makes me very anxious even though I "know" I have to let go

I am not a terrible control freak, well OK sometimes!! but I am struggling with this one too. My DS1 is about to turn 13 and I am anxious about the fact that over the next fews years I will not know what he is doing, who he is with all of the time, and that he won't be my little boy anymore I am the most important female in his life at the moment and will change very soon!!

No advice really, I just understand exactly where you are coming from.

I make no excuses, I am a control freak!

DD is almost 14 (going into Yr9) You just have to go with the flow, let them make their own choices, but every now and then, let them know you are still in charge! It kills me, and I do get wound up about it sometimes, but taking over and controlling her life will just push her away. Take a deep breath and hope that you have taught him well and if he ever needs you, you'll be there.
