English degree, level 1 - got extentions on my work - this is one of my essay questions and I cant even begin to understand where to start and i'm getting really confused

Wonderland is a version of our adult world. Alice in Wonderland is a book about a child challenging this grown up world?.

Discuss this view with close reference to the text in your answer.

Will get back to you on this OWO when DD2 stops roaring.

Shite question by the way ... I get really fed up by lecturers who don't feel the need to be clear, and I am one.

Basically about wonderland as a society that is made up of rules, regulations etc that seek to corral Alice (the child). Those rules seem arbitrary and illogical to her and seem set up to make her fail ...

You then need to think about Alice's response to those rules - whether she conforms, rebels etc.

What kind of resolution there is - ie one that restores the adult status quo or vindicates the child's rebellion.

Google Bakhtin and the carnivalesque as this idea is about the way society is fascinated by the comic reversal of social order ...

The baby stopped crying as you can gather.

you are so so lovely, do you think it is worth looking at marxism? socialism V capitalism etc? As alive lives in Victorian capitalist society?

Have to head out now but will add more later ...

Be careful to distinguish between anti-capitalism in the text, if there is any, and a marxist approach through which you choose to draw attention to those issues.

If you've read Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market - in your norton volume 2 - in class at any stage that might help too. (rep. of children and capitalism)

Think about Vic. rep of gender roles, the family (again, social section of vics in your norton would help)

Got to run ...
