Nit experts I need advice,getting desperate!!!!!!!

So twin 1 got them 1st.

We bought the famous Nitty Gritty comb at great expense and did it for about 5 days.

They're back with a sting in the tale. Dd4 has now got them too,she has waist length auburn curls(which I'm NOT getting cut mum).

She is overjoyed. Dp and I just spent an hour trying to comb through her hair with tea tree conditioner. How long do we have to do this for 5 nights,10????? Are we doing it right?

I want them gone before dtwin 2 gets them as he shrieks blue murder if an ant runs over his foot.

Both twins have long hair (not waist length)too we'll be up until midnight combing at this rate if all 3 get it at once.

Please say there is a way out of this without having to cut off all their lovely hair.

after suffering many years of this and trying every treatment on the market,I have come to the conclusion that combing with the nitty gritty comb and planty of conditioner is the best solution,I comb evey other night until no more come out and then do once a week just to check if reinfection has occured,but it is a slow and laborious process and I think I remember reading that it can take three weeks to get rid of them,good luck.

just use the chemical stuff.

i had nits a couple of years ago from a kid at work.
did the whole conditioner thing etc etc and it didn't work. in the end i got soem full marks solution and it did the trick

Really,what do you do blitz everybody at once,then do everybody again a few days later?

I'm a bit of an organic freak and dtwin 1 has exzema but I have to say a bit of pesticide in this case is starting to look appealing. I could do us all.

Are the repellent sprays any good too?

yeah i did everyone, then a second lot a week later.

i am generally a bit of an organic freak too, but tbh i just wanted the little buggers gone! it worked brilliantly, though i guess if the children were getting nits frequently i would maybe not be so happy about keep on using it

You need to use the comb and conditioner every other day for two weeks, it does work, but it's not easy.

If desperate I would use Hedrin, it says its not full of crap, but you do have to repeat again.

The best most effective thing I have found though really is comibg with conditioner and nitty gritty comb for two weeks.

Hedrin, at least twice. Plus Nitty Gritty comb. Sympathies. Look for eggs after you've Hedrined and get them out. Nails are quite effective to get hte ones the comb has missed.

My dd also has waist-length hair (not curly, but incredibly fine and tangly) and had to be combed because ds1 had nits. At the time he had shoulder-length hair, incredibly thick.

The best technique I have found for dd is to brush her hair and part it into four or six sections, plait each section, and then wet, condition and comb the sections one at a time, replaiting loosely wehn finished. Then it all has to be undone for the final rinse. You do risk missing the partings, but you can comb each parting when you undo the hair.

With ds1 I would wet and condition his hair, and use two of those fat grips like overgrown clothespegs with teeth. One to hold the next uncombed section out of the way, and the other to hold combed hair out of the way.

You don't need to comb every night. With 3 dcs I comb one each night, and dh and I would comb each other once a week. After the first week or two, I only combed ds1 (the one with nits) every 3 nights, and dd and ds2 once a week or so, just to make sure they hadn't caught nits from him.
