Present from new baby to older sibling - good idea?

Not sure whether this should go in Childbirth, but anyway. I've heard lots of 2nd time parents say that getting a present for dc1 from the new baby helped with bonding etc. If anyone did it, how did they give it, and was it worth it? Would love to hear experiences.

I have just bought the new baby's presents for my 2 DC's. I have bought DD some (slightly) dangly earrings which is something she wouldn't normally have been allowed.

Also DS (2) has bought the baby a present. He loves his cuski so he has bought the baby one in another colour. He seems to be really looking forward to giving it to his brother.
