Am I the only one with a 15 month old who still feeds in the night?

DS is my 2nd DC so I shoudl perhaps know how to deal with this. He internittently sleeps through but mostly wakes at midnight and 4AM for milk. I have managed to deal with the 4AM waking by leaving him to cry and comforting. However, the midnight wake up is only solved with a bottle of milk. I tried leaving him for 5 mins last night. going in and comforting (stops crying when I pick him up), he then cries as soon as I out him down and leave him for 10 mins and so on. This went on for over half hour and he was getting himself in such a state. In the end I gave him milk and he slept till half 7. Should I do something else or just give him his milk at midnight. He eats well in the day and has his dinner at about 6.

My DD does, I use it to soothe her back to sleep. Doubt its hunger though, prob wind related, ot teething.

My DD has got back into the habit of a small feed during the night as she's been teething forever - she's now 22 months.....

Glad its not just me.

My DD2 is 14 months and still has at least one bottle (usually 4am-ish) and is sometimes up twice like your DS (11-midnight ish for bottle and then again at 5ish if it's twice a night).

DD1 was the same.

I figure it's okay - if they take the milk and go straight back to sleep I feel they probably needed it and eventually DD1 grew out of it but she was probably more like 17 months before she did.

Having said that, I just can't face the hassle of trying to let them cry or going to settle without a bottle or whatever, it's just easier to do what works so I'm maybe not the best to advise.

My top tip is to get DH to do the night wakings. We now have a situation where DD2 only settles for daddy

I know it's milk he wants because he points to where the milk is usually kept.

It settles him back to sleep and we all get a good night's sleep (relatively) so it's a non-problem really.

If I woke up thirsty and wanted a drink I would have one. Likewise, I have also been known to wake up starving while pregnant and lay there munching on an apple much to DP's annoyance.

Sorry to depress you all but my DD did this until she was approx 2.6. she only stopped when we sent her bottles to the sleep fairies .

It became a habit and although it was only ten minutes for her to drink the milk and settle back to sleep, it was wearing me down having broken sleep.

But I tried settling her without milk and always ended up giving it anyway, so when she was your childs age she did still need it I think.

My ds is 13 months so slightly younger but is exactly the same. Strangely enough though, we have been putting him to bed in total darkness for the last few nights- his bedroom is next door to dd's and we normally leave her light on, but since it's been switched off he has been sleeping pretty much through the night. It's been an absolute lifesaver. I think he got into a habit of feeding in the night rathe rthan really needing it. 3 days is a very shot time though so it could all change, but I can't tell you what a difference it's made to my mood to feed him before I go to bed and know that he'll sleep til morning, rather than going to bed dreading him waking up 3, 4, 5 times

Still bf my 14 month old 2 or 3 times a night! I night weaned DS1 at about 15 months, and had to put up with getting up at 4am every day for another year. I would rather feed through the night (and get up at 6.30) than go through that again.

My daughter is 20 months and still wakes in the night for a drink. She has a bit of milk and is straight back sleep. I've tried to get her back sleep without it and she is having none of it! I'll stick to the easy option and give her it.

My 15 month old feeds at least twice a night. Four times isn't unusual.

my 16 month old bfs two or three times a night - first molars coming through at the moment too so I don't think I could even attempt to cut down the length of her feeds!

gecko is 2.3 and bf every two to three hours all night

Thanks all I feel much better. I know DD did the same but after talking to someone who doesn't have this I wondered if I shold try and change it. He slept till 4 this morning and woke with a leaking nappy. I changed and fed him and he slept well again. I think he's also teething which doesn't help.

22 months here and still waking for milk. Far easier to go wth it than to fight it, even if it does result in broken sleep

one day it will resolve itself i am sure

My 19 month old has started not waking for a feed if I ignore her. She still sleeps in the bed with me and goes back to sleep if the middle of the night. Also she settles better if I change her nappy and keep a bottle of water or fruit tea in the bed somewhere she can find, she often has a sip herself and goes back to sleep. bus she does still wake for a bf once in the night about oonce a week.
