what age did you take your dd to have her hair cut?

Just wondering really. Haven't had dd's(23mo) cut yet, have only just got round the murderous hair brushing screams by singing wheels on the bus at the same time! It's a bit curly too, stupid question, but how would they do it as it's a bit boingy at the bottom. Also a bit hesitant as it's straighter near the roots and don't want to cut it in case the curls don't come back! (you can tell I have poker straight hair, no?). Doesn't look like any sign of split ends yet.When it's wet it's almost waist length.

My dd also has curly hair and I cut it myself until recently when she was 2.7 I took her to the hairdresser. She's mixed race so I took her to an afro/caribbean hairdressers - might be an idea for you too as they have alot of experience of cutting all types of curly hair.

My DD was 5 before I could bear to cut her hair.

She had the most gorgeous golden blonde curls and I knew that by cutting it they would go so I hung on.

It's still sort of golden and occasionally curly but it's big girl's hair now and definitely not baby hair.

Beware cutting it, it is never the same again

Dd had her first hair cut at around 2.5yrs old. Hers is curly too. The hairdresser sprayed water on it to straighten it while it was being cut.

If it looks in good condition I would not worry. But if it looks a bit 'straggly' perhaps have it trimmed and explain your worries to the hairdresser. Trimmed hair always looked in better condition IME.

They will probably wet her hair to cut it I would imagine.

My DD had her hair cut about 6/8 weeks which sounds ridiculous but she had so much and it was getting really long and uneven at the back especially as she did not appear to loose any after birth but it just kept growing. She also was getting very hot as she was a 'Summer baby'. Her hair is very long now and in good condition. I personally advocate regular trims and it stops the hair looking too straggly and gets children used to the hairdryers/hairdressers and so forth as it is 'normal' to them (I practice the same philosophy at the dentist and DD now goes in on her own!).

Choose your hairdresser by recommendation as we have had a lot in the 4 years my DD has had hers cut and some are more kiddie friendly than others!!!!

Thanks for replies, thought they might wet it. Think I'm going to leave for a while unless it starts looking straggly, as like stripes said, I don't think it'll be the same after cutting it. Hoping to leave doing it til she's old enough to understand what's happening. Fufflebum, I'll be taking her to the hairdressers - my sister cuts her son's hair and he hates having it done, I think they tend to sit still more for other people when it comes to things like haircuts!
