Won't stop crying - help...

My 6 week old ds has gone from being a pretty laid back baby, into a constantly crying one, in a matter of days. He's a bit windy and I give him Infacol which doesn't seem to do anything. I don't think he's sick.

He has periods of about 10 minutes when he's calm, but then he screams and is inconsolable for ages. I try everything but he's just so upset.

He's so tired and seems to drop off for a few minutes sometimes, then he screaming again.

I'm getting cabin fever in the house but I tried to take him out in the pram and he screamed so I came home.

A dummy seems to settle him for a bit but I don't want to start relying on a dummy away from bedtime.

Poor little boy, I don't know what to do...

Is he too hot? Could you get a tub of coolish water and give him a splash in it? Or fan him?

I would personally give the dummy if it's soothing him. At six weeks, he's too young to set up any bad habits. You can easily take it away again when whatever is bothering him is sorted.

Is it too hot to try him in a sling? I had to do this with dd1 when she was tiny. Just with her in a nappy though so we didn't overheat. It was the only thing that seemed to sooth her.

Have you tried an infant swing or gentle bouncy chair? He may be a baby that is comforted by motion ... swinging, walking, rocking etc. Also, if a dummy sooths him, let him have it. I swore I'd never use one but my youngest son found it so comforting. I was able to wean him from it at about 16 months without any problems.
