Can you recommend Doctor's Kit?

I have just bought DD a doctor's kit from the Early Learning Centre and quick frankly it is a bit shit. The stethoscope, the reason we bought it, is heavy and floppy and doesn't stay in her ears so she can't play with it properly, and the arms off the pair of 'glasses' keep coming off.

I rang up the customer service to give them this feedback and they said no-one else had complained before, but low and behold when I check out the reviews there are several people who say the same, cue another phonecall to ELC to inform them of this and they say they can't monitor all reviews (I'm sorry, but if I owned a business I think I would make checking out customer reviews a priority). Anyway, that's all irrelevant. What I really want is recommendations for a decent doctor's/nurse's kit, with a stethoscope that actually stays in a LO's ears. Any tips?

The trend at the moment in early years is to make experiences as real as possible, such as real food in the home corner and real clothes as dressing up clothes
We use real bandages in our nursery and old prescriptions and a real dcotors coat, the children love it.

That's a really good idea, in actual fact we have a real stethoscope my husband got from Nursing Times (he used to work in a newsagents and they have to take the gifts off before sending mags back). I can buy bandages, what else could I put in there and if I take the crappy ELC one back, what could I put it in?

disposable gloves
disposable apron (supervised of course)
empty hand gel bottle
real pill bottles, they love the clickey noise the lids make
spoon for medicine
clipboard and pen (not pencil, pens are more grown up)
lots of bandages
face mask
head thermometer
old prescriptions
diary for writing in
all in a big leather bag

writing this list makes me want to play!!!!!!!!!!!

My DD loves the fisher price one, she has played with it so much, although I have to agree that it is even better when you add to it with real bits and pieces.

Wish you'd started this thread a couple of weeks ago. DD has just been given a really shite doctor's kit for her birthday. Really I just wanted a stethoscope as she's only 2 but is fascinated by them when I go for antenatal check ups and I thought it would make her feel more involved in all that.

Anyway, will try and remember these tips for when she's a bit bigger!

I recommend the Melissa & Doug Doctor's Kit. My kids love it, and the stethoscope fits well in their ears. The set is durable and has held up to lots of play. Definitely worth checking out!

Aww, that's so sweet that you wanted to encourage your little one's interest in medicine!
