Cold turkey worked for both my ds's by this age.

Ds1 by mutual decision. Ds2 as we had lost the only one left that he would consider using!

Be prepared for tears and upset. For both the ds's I committed myself to sitting with them while they went to sleep for as long as it took until they could cope - it took about 3-4 nights, gradually getting easier each night.

The dummy fairy came and took them for the babies. They left a Dora puzle in return. Dd was a little upset at bedtime, but was fine after two or three nights.

Good luck.
