Who got the Slipper when they were growing up?

How times change! Was all the rage in the 70/80s when i was growing up.I never got the slipper at school, but my mum use to use it on me and my brother.

No we got the wooden spoon. I remember it clearly. Only my mum would resort to this, never my dad but now I understand how frustrating it can be being home all day with 2 kids! Shocking though really and hard to reconcile with the doting, calm grandmother she is now.

Remember the wooden spoon too!

I got the wooden spoon too! Thought we were unique, but obviously it must have been the thing to do at the time. My brother hid them all.

I thought we were unique too. I hid them too, didn't realise they were so bloody cheap. Infact thought my mother at the time was a Victorian old dragon. Love her to bits now although she is quite Victorian and quite quite mad (another thread entirely!)

Lol was just going to post we got the wooden spoon was pretty common then!

I learnt to run fast and was threatened many more times than used but it really did smart!

Wooden spoon (mother), belt and slipper (father). Was an old-fashioned up-bringing...

just got smacked normally, quite a lot IIRC.

Dh used to get whacked with a hairbrush apparently.

unfortunately more than, very short arsed step father with big chip on shoulder. he died last year at a very young age and i think it was the cosmos way of evening the score....

so given the chance id have rammed the slipper up his short arse. or whatever else he chose as weapon of choice. rant over. with my DC things are different glad to say. rant over - you may continue!

Not the slipper, and my mum never hit me after she slapped me as a toddler and I had a perfect hand shaped bruise that she then had to explain to nursery (I bruise easily and badly).

My Dad however would smack with whatever was to hand, including hairbrushes and on one occasion a bean pole.

My great aunt used to use a wooden spoon - the long handled jam sort as she was disabled and had to wait for the kids to come back into her range to smack them

No and can never actually remember being smacked but DM says she must have done. My mum was hit a lot growing up and I think she resolved to do it differently. She is a bit of an old hippy now.

I remember telling DS1 about how a lot of my friends were hit with slippers/canes/hairbrushes/spoons/belts etc and he honestly didn't believe me.

Child of the 60s, so yes to wooden spoon and hairbrush and raise you wooden scholl sandals.
All in the hands of my mother.
We didn't call it child abuse, or even DV. It was just how the majority raised their children back in the day.

Wondered if this was another austinsam thread or if dita and austin are the same person too.

Me too - child of the 80's!

Although mum didnt wear slippers - it was the wooden scholl sandles instead. Cant say it really hurt though, I think it was of a humiliation thing!
