Stupid question, sorry, but I need the answer

What do you do with an into everything 19 month old whilst you take a shower first thing???? He is up at 6am........was going back to bed at 9am but that's now faiding fast and we have number 2 on the way!

PLEASE HELP AND TRY NOT TO THINK I AM STUPID ALTHOUGH I MOST PROBABLY AM!

Have a shower before his dad goes to work (well that's what I do anyway!).

Or trap him in the shower room with you after making it toddler-proof.

Or have a bath/shower in the evenings and then just a strip-wash in the mornings.

I used to put mine on the cot with a load of toys and she was quite happy. Or on a blanket on the floor with toys.

Can he not sit on the bathroom floor with some toys? Or strap him into his buggy if you want to keep him from emptying talc everywhere!

I never shower in the mornings for this reason. Mine is 19 months too.

Have you got a playpen you could put him into in the bathroom? Or put him back in his room for 10minutes with a book/toy/game?

I usually have a bath at night when DD (also 19mo) is in bed fast asleep, as i find this is the easiest option.

depending on your set up i used to just put dd on the bathroom floor and shut the bathroom door. she liked me drawing faces on the steamy shower screen. as she got older she'd get in the shower with me and sit in the tray.

Until afternoon naps got dropped, I used to shower or bath then. Otherwise evenings.

it is all a dim and distant memory

BUT i used to shower in 2 mins tops

maybe other peoples' suggestions are better

I had one of the house- the living room- which was toddler proof and put a stairgate on the door.

We have a stair gate at the top of the stairs so I just let her play on the landing and the bathroom floor and keep an ear out for her. She can't open the bedroom doors yet though, but I suppose I'll just either make sure the bedrooms are safe or put locks on the doors, maybe. She's not always that pleased with this arrangement, mind you, so the washing has to be quick.

Often what I do now is have a bath at night and then just a quick wash in the morning.

The trouble is he will be climbing up, opening draws the list goes on. Think I will get up at 5:30 or have a shower the night before! Thanks ladies x

my son is 22 months - stair gate on the stairs and on the kitchen so the bottom floor is kidproof then I put on Postman Pat and give him a bowl of dry Cheerios. I have about 6-7 minutes to wash my hair and brush my teeth etc. This eems to work fairly well as he screams his head off in the bathroom.

I sat mine in the thhe shpwer room with me and some toys and made sure there was nothing he could grab pull.....also remember singing songs to him and showering really quickly

Have a bath together.

Playpen! Or travel cot with toys. Until you can leave him in front of tv and know he will stay there.

I would advise with your next baby to get them used to the playpen early. I used it with dcs 2 and 3 as much for their own safety from siblings as for my freedom.

I've toddler-proofed the bathroom, so he can be in there with me while I shower. However - I've so often taken him into the shower with me (fastest way to get both of us clean in the morning) - and he loves it - that he now gets completely pissed off with me and cries when I take a shower without him .

I plonk my 16mo as far from the shower as possible with a pile of books, then run to the shower and hope I complete it before he makes his way to the bathroom.

Invariably he arrives as I've got shampoo in my eyes and starts banging toy cars against the shower door, or he ransacks the bathroom, or gets into a fight with ds1.

Your only option is the cot with books and toys - turn lights on to bright and put a CD of something lively on so he doesn't think he's being put to bed. Tell him what you're going to do and he will be fine. He'll soon recognise what's going on and learn to recognise the sounds etc. Just work on the timing - some are happy to do it after a quick nappy change and come milk and others need 15 mins of play or so first.

At 19mo ds1 would just have climbed out of his cot.

I wash my hair and straighten it at night before i go to bed and if i feel I need it have a freshen up quick 2 min shower while Ds plays in the bathroom.

I used to put DD in a high chair (with harness thing) in front of CBeebies with a drink. Now I am usually up just before her so I can sneak in for a quick shower and then wake her up.

I would take my dd in the shower with me - I found it the quickest way to get us both clean in the morning. Also - it entertained her enough for me to condition my hair! Now dd2 (9 weeks) has made an arrival - I pop her in a bouncy chair outside the shower and dd1 (now 2 1/2) sits in the bathroom too. I find singing - 'wind the bobbing up', 'when all the world is sleeping', 'incy wincy spider' and 'twinkle twinkle little star' so that she can do the motions to the songs. It entertains her for 2 mins so I can get myself washed! Unfortunately - my hair very rarely get conditioned now

I could never have a bath in the evening - a shower in the morning wakes me up!
