What lengths have you gone to to rescue your DCs favourite cuddly toy ?

After a terrible heart lurching drive to the doctors today to reunite DS with, well for the purposes of non identification, lets call him, Morvin, I wondered whats the furthest someone has travelled to get a loved soft toy back.

We once drove from Ambleside back to Bowness on Windermere as Morvin was trapped in the covers and we hadn't noticed him, but I'm sure some of you have had to travel a lot further. Virtual prize for the longest distance .

We didn't have to travel but we did wait for about 20 months and after all that time our favourite cuddly was found (via Ebay)to be having a holiday in Bracknell.

I can't beat those, but when my DD was a baby she had a particular teddy that was a real favourite and came absolutely everywhere with us. When she was about 1 it fell out of the buggy one day when we were out for a (long) walk and despite me doing the whole walk again I couldn't find it. It was from Mothercare so I sped off in the car to try and buy another one but the local shop had run out as it had been discontinued. The other Mothercare which is a 40 minute drive away had one left so I went off to get it. So in total about 4 hours spent getting an identical teddy. She was none the wiser and the ted remained a firm fave until she was about 3 but now, aged 4, it lies at the bottom of a toy box and I wonder why I bothered!

WE lost "pickles the pig" in a shopping mall. We searched high and low, couldn't find him, about a week later finally tracked on down on ebay. It arrived about wice the size and we still tell stories about how when pickles got out and ate all that chocolate and came back fat.

We tried to buy a replacement moose. Looked identical to us, but rejected completely by DS and will only be used for extreme medical emergencies for spare body parts.

I'm kind of hoping DS will grow out of his cuddly toy in not too many years as fear that its so battered and worn now that won't survive many more years.

There is a lovely story book called "Tatty Ratty", about a lost rabbit soft toy. I recommend getting it for your DCs. It tells the story of how Tatty Ratty has lots of adventures and ends up coming back to the little girl all "shiny and clean" (the parents buy her a new one). Beautiful illustrations

This made me laugh so much when I saw this as it brings back funny memories of my sons beloved toy. My son JB had spud (the character from Bob the Builder) from the age of one. JB took him everywhere, all the family knew him, friends and if he'd lost him in our village he would probably have eventually got back to our house, he was that well known.
Then one year when JB was about 3, we went on holiday for a week to Menorca. Spud came too! Spud joined us on day trips, evenings out etc. Then the day before we were due to fly home, we couldn't find him anywhere. We searched our apartment high and low. My son wasn't too worried at this point but I was distraught. We drove everywhere we had been that day, we asked at the hotel and no-one had seen him. The hotel staff I think thought we were mad, they just didn't seem to understand how important he was. To cut a very long story short we found him. He had been put in a cupboard in the dining room of the hotel. (My son had left him there at breakfast.) I can honestly say we were thinking about cancelling our flight home to give us a few days to find him.
We still have Spud and my son is 10. He sleeps with him every night and he is not allowed to leave his bedroom!!

Screamingabdab - What do you MEAN they bought a new Tatty Ratty? It is clearly the same one. He confirms this at the end by whispering to the owner. I will accept nothing less .

I think Nancy10 wins by implication that she might have cancelled her flights back home.

Many many moons ago (ok, so appox 24yrs ago) I dropped my favourite stuffed dog (Dogger) down the gap between the train and platform when boarding it to go home from a holiday with my Grandparents. My Grandad went and got the train moved forward so he could jump down on the tracks and return Dogger to me before we went home.

My sister had to ring a hotel in Thailand about a lost teddy, which was difficult, because if the Thais have a word for teddy bear, DSis certainly didn't know it. I'm not sure if she actually admitted that the teddy was in fact hers....

Dslost his cuddly Not a toy that was easy to replace - we got a replacement from Portugal (god I LOVE ebay....) Ds never noticed that the second cuddly had all his limbs, where as the first was paraplegic (dof had chewed a limb one day as it was hanging out of the cot ). Ds is currently sitting by me with his cuddly.......
