What did your DC get as 'a present' from their newborn sibling?

DS2 is due in around a months time and I'm thinking about what to get DS1 from him as a present. DS1 will be 21 months when his wee brother arrives. Not sure how big or small a pressie it should be- just looking for some ideas really! Thanks

DS was 1.8yrs when DD was born; she "brought" him a blue fluffy monkey, which he still sleeps with at age 6.

I don't think it has to be something huge. We chose something he could cuddle when I was feeding the baby.

When ds4 was born ds3 was 2ish and he got a Bob the Builder hard hat and back pack. When ds5 was born ds3 got a box of 5 Hot Wheels cars and ds4 who was 7 months old got a Luner Jim t shirt. hth and good luck

Not playdoh they will want to play(or eat it) with it while you are looking after the baby

dressing up outfit (ds got a sportucus costume from dd2)
magnadoodle, they can sit beside you and draw but no mess!

Shopping trolley with pretend food it - it was run up and down the maternity ward for six sodding days. But DD still loves it - she was the same age I think when DS was born.

DS 'told us to get' a scooter for DD (a very nice 2 wheeler silver and pink number, to be precise).

We got the scooter as DD is v active child and wanted one anyway and it seemed the perfect time to do it. Probably a bigger present than necessary but she was happy and does tell everyone that her bro got it for her.

dd bought ds a digger - about £4 worth I think (he was 2 at the time)
We also let ds choose a present for dd, incidentally.

DD got DS an 'I'm the Big Brother' T-shirt and playmobil baby & peadiatrician. He treasured the T-shirt in particular and refused to part with it even when outgrown.

DS was 2.0 when DD was born. I got him a small sheep - he was quite thrilled!

DD didn't get anything for DS, because they have the same gap (just over 3 years) between them as DH and his sister and DH clearly remembers being presented with a gift "from the baby" and being deeply sceptical about the baby's gift-buying capabilities, concluding that his parents were not being straight with him about this whole baby sister business (with a smaller age gap and/or coming from less innately suspicious stock this is unlikely to be a problem ). But when DD was born MIL took DS into town and bought him some model animals of various sorts to mark the occasion.

Ds was 24 mths when his little sister was born. She 'bought' him a small toy car. Something that he'd like that was small enough to fit in my hospital bag and for ds to take home with him. I remember he was more interested in getting the car out of the packet than looking at the baby lol!

We later had to send it back as it was recalled for lead paint.

It was only the first of many attempts the siblings have made upon each others lives.

What about something that he can use whilst your busy feeding the baby or dealing with the baby.

I look after a toddler the same age who likes these she only has them at nappy changing - so its something you could put on a high shelf and give to a child when busy with the baby and loves looking at them, getting me to make the noise or say what it is as well as posting them in and out of the box.

When i went from 1 baby to two, DD1 got a babyborn dolly so she could look after it like mummy! It seemed to really work, she loved doing everything i did. She still has it in her room somewhere.

DS1 was 21 months when DD was born, and got a packet of milky bar buttons! DS1 and DD were 9 and 7 were DS2 was born, and we figured they were past the stage of needing a present.

DD was 18 1/2 months when DS was born, we got her some little pots and pans along with a small selection of wooden food. She loves it and has played with it every day since, mind you,it's only been 10 days

I'd say anything you know they'll love and that they can play with immediately is good. I'd have loved to get DD a little swing to hand up in the garden but she'd not have had they foggiest what it was when she unpacked it...

An aquadraw from us - she also got a "big sister Dora" from her grandparents (was 1.11).

She still says "that is what (DS) got me when he came out of your tummy!"

my dd was 4 when ds came along - she asks to many questions so she got a watch of him.... if it was larger she would wonder how e kept it / stored it..... etc... 'mummy how come he came out with a scooter your foo must be huge' type thing.

ds got one of those toy pianos you sit at from elc. we got it at a car boot sale for £8. it has become one of the most played with toys in our house - they both sit and have a wee play at it before / after bath.

ds1 was exactly 2 years older: wooden toolkit, which he still loves and remembers who "gave" it to him, almost 2 years on

DD was 2.8 when her little brother was born. He "gave" her a mermaid barbie. Which she loved, until the tail fell off.
