my 2 week old seems to have red bum whenever i use wipes, when i use cotton wool with water it clears up. OH and ds1 have psoriasis and i think baby might have sensitive skin too. im just wondering what others use as opposed to wipes for sensitive skin. there isnt always water available if im out and about and need to change him.

Cotton wool and water.....DS now 15 months has never had nappy rash.

Dd, now 4, had cotton wool and water for a few weeks. When we used wipes....hey presto nappy rash. Even the 'kinder' ones for 'senstive' skin have yukky ingredients.

water and cotton wool.....

Can't believe i never thought of not drying my washable wipes, they've been driving me mad, pegging them all out on the line

booyhoo i'm sure it would be fine to stick them in your normal wash - you can wash nappies with everything else if you want to.

I use baby washcloths from the pound shop. £1 for 6. I just use them with water mainly.

Yes those poundshop ones are fab - thats what we use for faces/as flannels.

you could use normal wipes/cotton wool and water for poo and cloth wipes for wee. I wouldn't hesitate to put weed-on wipes in the normal wash, and a couple of pooey ones but maybe not loads.

With such a young baby, stick with cotton wool for a while longer and you may well find dispo wipes are ok later on.

Here we use brushed cotton wipes and plain water for bottoms, washed with nappies, and 100% cotton hankies washed with whites for faces and hands. I find flannels quite rough and take ages to dry.

Ds is 13 months old and I've not bought a single pack of wipes.

At home I pop him under the shower for a rinse.

Out and about I use cotton wool. There is always water in bathrooms.

I do have a bottle of water in the bottom of the pram that I use on the odd occasion we're changing a nappy in the park or at the beach or somewhere without plumbing.
