Registering a birth late

Wasn't sure which section of the website to ask this...
I've been totally useless an not registered the birth of my son yet as I keep forgetting. He's now 12 weeks. What is it with the 6 week deadline? Am I going to get a rap on the knuckles or worse?

From looking around online, it seems that it is only "late" if your child is over 12 months and even then there is no fine, you just have to fill out an extra form. I would imagine that they might comment on the fact you were late, but that will probably be it.

Just call them and ask! Get it over with!

I know. Total idiot. I managed to do my daughter within 6 weeks but this time it keeps slipping my mind.
Thanks for looking. I saw the same things online saying "you must" register but nothing explaining what happens after 6 weeks.
