Bed time for toddlers

Normally they say that toddlers should go to bed seven and wake up seven. To me seven is too early as it is the time when dh comes back from work. Also ds(16 months) sleeps for two hours in the afternoon so I put him to bed between eight and nine. What is the bed time of your toddler also does he sleeps during the day?

Always been 7.30 for my dd, but it's whatever works for you that's important.

SPARKLER1 · 07/05/2005 22:07

7 - 7.30pm on week nights - weekends are usually whenver they drop. I do this in the hope that they might sleep in later on a weekend morning - unfortunately it never happens.

tiffini · 07/05/2005 22:07

i dont think it matters before they start school.

during the week between 8 and 8.30, usually after eastenders. we get ujp 7 am for nursery. ans=d she has a hour nap there. 9 at the weekends in the hope i get an extra hour in the morning. no nap at weekends

kid · 07/05/2005 22:28

DD (6) and DS (3) both go to bed at 8pm. I try to stick to this time at weekends, but am not too bothered if they stay up later. I would like them to sleep in later at the weekend but they never do!
DS sometimes has a nap for up to 1.5 hours.

deegward · 07/05/2005 22:31

ds2 (just 2) goes to bed at 7pm/7.30pm, he naps for about 1-2 hours in the middle of the day as well.

coldtea · 07/05/2005 22:40

Pomi, i used to say the same when my ds(nealy 5) was this age. He used to go to bed between 8-9pm also. When i had dd she set herself a bedtime of 6.30pm from about 12 weeks(she was just so tired)& i couldn't believe it-like you Dh isn't home then!

She is now 21months & still goes to bed between then & 7pm so only sees her daddy briefly in the morning. She will also sleep from 12.30pm till 3pm. I actually like the fact she goes to bed so early now as i get to spend some quality time with ds. I agree with tiffini though before school it doesn't matter what time they go to bed.

A good friend once said this to me 'it's only a problem if it's a problem for you'. That's my motto & i stand by it

DD is just 3, and for the past year or mo she has gone to bed around 7:30pm. She normally sleeps for 11-12 hours. DD no loner naps during the day now. Luckily if DD does go to bed later (weekends, when anaughty greandparents babysit, etc) she still sleeps for a smilar length of time - very good for when we want a lie in

zebraX · 08/05/2005 21:09

None of my babies/toddlers/children have every slept 12 hours/night, at any age.

Bozza · 08/05/2005 21:16

Would say it depends whether she is getting over tired or not. My kids have to be up 3 days a week to go to nursery so our bedtime is dictated by that. DD goes to bed at 7.30 and gets up between 6 and 7 but still has 2 naps. She is almost 12 months. I can see that soon she will drop one of the naps and am hoping that will mean that she will go through to nearer 7 than 6.

When DS was 16 months he was going to bed at 7.45 and getting up at 7 and having a 2 hour nap - and he needed it all.

Surfermum · 08/05/2005 21:24

DD (23m) goes to bed at 7pm and wakes about 8am. She'll sleep for an hour or longer at about 11.30, but if we're out she'll have a nap in the afternoon instead. If she has an afternoon nap and we don't think she's tired enough for bed at 7 she stays up a bit longer.

Nemo1977 · 08/05/2005 21:34

ds 18mths goes to bed at 7.30 and wakes at 6.30. He will either sleep for 20mins or not at all in the day

maria1966 · 08/05/2005 22:54

ds(4) goes to bed 8.30pm ,sleeps until 8am
ds(2) goes to bed 7.30,sleeps until 8-8.30am,no no naps during the day

bobbybob · 09/05/2005 02:04

7pm here if ds has had a good rest during the day (doesn't sleep) or 6.30pm if he's been flat out. Sleeps for 12 or 13 hours.

Luckily dh gets home from work at 5.15pm or they would never see each other!

ghosty · 09/05/2005 02:48

DS never slept 12 hours ... so he always went to bed around 7.30 pm in the hope that he may sleep till at least 6.30am (nearer 5.30 though grrrrrr)
DD is a different kettle of fish ... she is only just a toddler (just started walking ... she is 15 months).
She cannot keep her eyes open past 7pm and is always sparko by 7.05pm. She sleeps till at least 6.30am, nearer 7am every day ... AND has between 2 and 3 hours kip during the day ....

flamesparrow · 09/05/2005 08:10

7.30pm for me, and she doesn't often sleep during the day.... we'll sometimes get her to have 45mins between 5 and 6, but that's about it!!

She's nearly 2.

Oh, wakes about 7.

oooggs · 09/05/2005 08:59

DS 16mths goes to bed 6-6.30pm and wakes 8-8.15am and sleeps half an hour before lunch.

Three mornings a week he is up at 6.45am for nursery and once a fortnigh he stays up til 8.30pm as I take him to Guides with me.

handlemecarefully · 09/05/2005 09:01

"Normally they say..."

Pah! - who is they !

2.10 year old goes to bed at 19.30 but if she has a late nap (after 2pm) she isn't tired enough until 20.30

13 month old is usually whacked out by 19.00

flamesparrow · 09/05/2005 09:05

I'm dreading the next one being one that is affected by late naps...

I think B is making up for NEVER sleeping as a newborn by giving me hassle free late naps now!
