DD, 5, has been asking me "So, why are we here, on this planet, what are we all doing here?"

Is this normal for a 5 year old (she is nearly 6 though?). It seems rather deep to me, iykwim? I answered in my usual manner, "That's a very good question, DD, something I've wondered myself a number of times, why don't you ask your father when he gets home, I think he knows the answer to that one".

The only thing is, it's not a question i asked myself til I was at least 18! DD is only 5! She is a bright, intelligent girl, but I didn't think she would be asking this sort of thing quite this soon.

at 'ask your father' your DH must be like mine (who has a good answer for everything)

Doesn't seem odd to me, children ask the most interesting and complicated things all the time IME but I suspect that the reasoning underlying the question may be a bit less philosophical and deep than yours was at 18 (unless your dd is a child genius & you haven't noticed yet).

Oh yes, very normal question.

I just turn it back round to DS and say "when, why do you think we're here?" sometimes he answrs philosophically, sometimes he is more matter of fact or just silly.

I guess whay you answer depends on your own beliefs and views.

Sounds perfectly normal to me, and just the sort of hting my dd (5) would ask. Well, one of the many, many things she would ask.
Good answer too

...was lolling at teh ask your fatehr when he comes home , because that would be just what I would say

sounds like she is pondering about her world and all that....bless her...quite normal, but no less brilliant
