Nappies - how many per day

hmmm thought i's posted this but it's gone.

anyway....as you ladies have been there and done it, i hope this is the right place to ask: roughly how many nappies does a newborn get through in a day, i've no idea if it's like 2 or 22.

oh and although i intend using reuseables i thought life may be easier initially if i go with disposables. is there any real difference between day pampers and huggies?

thanks for your help

I would say about 10 a day for a newborn.

sleepyeyes · 19/05/2009 12:03

When I used reuseables it was around about 6- 8 a day on average maybe 10 or 11 at newborn stage as your changing them through the night.

I wouldn't say there is much difference between the brands but I know people will swear by pampers being best for girls and huggies for boys.

nickytwotimes · 19/05/2009 12:05

8-10 to start with.

I find Huggies leak.
Pampers are dear.

Both Asda and Tesco do good nappies at a lower cost.

I've always used between 4 and 6 a day.

jeee · 08/06/2009 11:36

Normally about 10 for a new-born. But one day, DC4 got through 27 in 24 hours...

mistlethrush · 08/06/2009 11:37

I used more reusables - as I had them and they were 'free' so didn't hold off because I knew we were going out in x amount of time . Can't really remember early days that much - we did have disposables for 8 weeks before sorting out washables, then hired a variety pack to find out which fitted best. I think we found Pampers were best at this stage.

We are currently going through at least 10 a day + a heap of clothes and muslins when she wees as we take her nappy off! Our daughter is tiny - on;y 5 lb 12 at 3 weeks and we find pampers the best - supermarket brands are too big ang huggies are a wierd shape. Pampers are bloody expensive though - can't wait til she grows a bit and we can start using our lovely stash of reusables!
