Out-of-date carpet cleaner (Vanish) – could it be radioactive??!

DD threw up all over her carpet last night, so I cleaned it as best I could, then sprayed copious amounts of Vanish stain remover today, which tbh smelled worse than the sick, it was soooo fishy and horrible!

Just realised it expired in October 2004 ? does anyone know if the chemicals might have transformed into something really toxic and should I not put her in her room tonight .... or until I find out what Vanish's half-life is ?

Any chemists with advice??? Ta.

'K, she's still alive, 2 nights later so the Vanish was probably ok.

But what's a really good way to get sicky vomitty smells out of a room, pleeeease!?!?!?

bicarbonate of soda and biological washing powder

have never used this on carpet but it works on mattresses (DS was v sick on his and the smell vanished)

IME, VANISH either sets the stain into the carpet or bleaches it

lol re. the vanish

sprinkle bicarb of soda on the stain/smell and then hoover it up a few hours later.. should lift the smell out just fine.

good luck

meant to say bicarb first and then follow up with washing powder (make a solution of each)

Thanks, will give it a try!

(Though I've got a feeling I've only got baking powder ... I wonder if that will do ...??)
