Should I give potty training a go?

DD is 2 in a couple of weeks and I've been introducing her to her potty for a few weeks. I was advised to let her "make friends" with it! For about 2 weeks now after her tea I've been sitting her on it and nearly every night she's done a poo. Last night she was running round without her nappy on, went to the potty of her own accord and did a poo. We found her trying to empty it down the loo. About 5 minutes later she ran to it again and sat down and did a wee. I wasn't planning on even thinking about potty training until August but I'm wondering if she's ready now. Do you think she's ready or is she a bit young?

Awww, I'd put it down to being tired. A camping trip takes a lot out of you - I'm normally exhausted by the end of any trips!!!

MRSflamesparrow · 02/06/2005 23:40

Woohooo!!!

She'd pooed in her nighttime nappy before we got it off her, but the rest of the day was dry!!! Knickers half of it, bare bum the first half.

We had a slight damp patch after some hysterical laughing and tickling, and we had a soggy skirt where she hasn't quite sussed how to lift it up completely before sitting on the potty, but all in all, dry day!!!!

She's even co-operating with putting knickers on!! I'm looking forward to seeing what tomorrow brings (does that make me odd???).

And SM... I can't believe you live so close!!!

How's it going with you guys now?

MRSflamesparrow · 05/06/2005 10:01

Yesterday was less good... we had wet knickers, a poo in knickers, one on the floor next to the potty, but then - she handed me the potty and said "POO!" and yup, there was

This might be costing me money in washing, but savin a fortune in pull ups.

You guys all dry now?

Hi everyone, sorry haven't had a chance to write for a few days, feeling very bleugh with summer cold

DS is brilliant! Dh took him to the supermarket yesterday morning and I made sure ds had a wee before they went. I told dh to go to the loo on the way out... "do I have too?"... "yes if you don't want any accidents in the car"... and he listened to the advice (!) and was so proud of ds holding himself whilst shopping and then did a big wee at the end on the loo. We're off ourselves for a weeks holiday on Friday... packing the pullups but hopefully he'll be in pants the whole time!

It's going to be strange when this thread finally finishes.. we'll have to move them onto something else so we can keep chatting

MRSflamesparrow · 06/06/2005 09:30

He's doing so well!!!

I'm going to be sat here talking to myself soon

Great day yesterday - no pooing until the middle of the night (the nice teething kind too, so I'm quite glad it was in a nappy!!). We had a slight dribble at the very end of the day, but other than that, completely dry (even her 3 hour nap!!!).

Today less good... she had already had an accident by 9am, but then she's not used to wearing clothes til about lunchtime, so she was probably a bit thrown!!!

Evesmama · 06/06/2005 10:10

MRSflamesparrow · 06/06/2005 10:29

Well DD's just peed all over the hall floor, and I think she must have been wearing my friend's DD's shoes because they were full

MRSflamesparrow · 07/06/2005 16:04

How's it going with you guys.

Not great here, we had the huge puddle yesterday, and today all was going well, until we had pooed in knickers

Surfermum · 07/06/2005 18:37

Hi guys. Well after that spectactular start from Surferbaby I think she's gone off the idea now. It's almost like she's testing the water (so to speak) to see what happens if she doesn't tell me. Since camping I think we've had at least 2 accidents each day and a whole pile of washing!

We're still giving her stickers and lots of praise and are pretty much ignoring the accidents and just hope it'll come. I'm really not finding this easier than nappies!

How is it going with everyone else?

DD has asked to be back in pull ups

She is still telling me for wees, but not poos. She has got her back teeth coming through though, and her poo is nasty, so it could be that...

flamesparrow · 11/06/2005 19:03

Went to Wimborne Festival today. She had been there for AGES before muttering about wees, so I assumed that her pull ups were full and annoying her, but NO! They were dry and she did the hugest wee in the world (that was even after a nap).

She stayed dry since, the only dirty nappy was a poo that she didn't mention, and then tried to take off by herself...

flamesparrow · 12/06/2005 22:27

Just really a big WOOHOO here

Surfermum · 12/06/2005 22:31

Well done little Sparrow! We were at Wimborne too yesterday. Surferbaby has deffo gone off the idea of telling me. It's hard work and lots of washing.

We could have been stood next to eachother!!!!

bumptobabies · 13/06/2005 08:30

ds is 22mths old he is holding his tummy sometimes when he does a wee and says his word for nappy.i have bought a potty, i took his nappy off and left the potty in the room he sat on it a couple of times so i praised him,my plan is to bring the potty out several times a day.what do you think?

flamesparrow · 13/06/2005 08:33

Sounds like a plan to me!

We had a few potties scattered round the house, and just left DD to wander with a bare bum whenever we were at home (she hates clothes anyway)

flamesparrow · 13/06/2005 20:00

She gave up completely today and just weed in her pull ups.

flamesparrow · 15/06/2005 08:04

B spent yesterday afternoon asking for the loo, and then refusing to sit on it... in the end (because she was naked) I just put a potty in the middle of the lounge and told her to use that because I wasn't taking her anymore. A little later we heard screaming from the hallway.....

I got out there to find her fallen bum first into the loo... wee all over the place (I think she went when she was perched on the edge before falling in), feet up in the air, clutching biscuits in both hands!!!!

Mummy was bad. Mummy laughed.

99redballoons · 20/06/2005 16:52

Hi all, we got back from our hols at the weekend... it's nice to catch up!

So a mixture of things going on then... must admit, being strict about the use of pull-ups has helped with us. Nappy comes off after about 30mins of being awake in the morning and then pull-ups are off within 30mins of the afternoon nap (which causes a fuss). Yes, he does use them for his wee's after sleeping (and poos sometimes), but they're banned the rest of the time and he's finally accepted it.. still have the odd accident when he's engrossed in a game or something and hasn't been for a while, but he's accepted it's pants in the day. Do you think you could enforce that sort of thing at home too? I know that ds only wants to stay in his nappy/pullup so he can be lazy...

He has also stopped telling me when he wants to go and I have to trust him.. well up to 2hrs and then I strip him off and let him find the potty. Sometimes there's something, other times not. He HATES me pestering him to go now. When out and about we just go into every loo possible and again usually something comes out. He doesn't seem to mind that, we say 'going for a quick walk with mummy' rather than 'do you need a wee' or 'off to the loo' cos if he's full he tends to lose control and wet himself a little bit. I guess thinking about it triggers something.

Anyway, thought I'd share that with you to see if it helps in any way.

Bumptobabies, that sounds like a good plan. Leaving the bottom half bare seems to be a necessity in the beginning and having a potty upstairs and downstairs helps alot. Good luck!

(PS. sorry for the long post!)
(PPS. the holiday was loverrrlllyyyy, all too quick)

flamesparrow · 22/06/2005 17:38

Jealous.

I want a holiday

DD is doing so so well when she is in knickers.... for wees.... Just ain't getting the hang of poos, and just poos in the knickers, or asks for nappy.
