Should I give potty training a go?

DD is 2 in a couple of weeks and I've been introducing her to her potty for a few weeks. I was advised to let her "make friends" with it! For about 2 weeks now after her tea I've been sitting her on it and nearly every night she's done a poo. Last night she was running round without her nappy on, went to the potty of her own accord and did a poo. We found her trying to empty it down the loo. About 5 minutes later she ran to it again and sat down and did a wee. I wasn't planning on even thinking about potty training until August but I'm wondering if she's ready now. Do you think she's ready or is she a bit young?

Thank you! I think surferbaby got the hang of telling me after about a week, coldtea. I'll send some surferbaby vibes to you all so we can end this thread with them all dry! Not that I want to stop chatting, but YKWIM!

How are you feeling Flamesparrow? All set for the wedding or a million and one things to do?

Thanks surfermum

Well done surferbaby! Yes, well and truely toddlers now..

Hope everyone's dd's are feeling better today.

Just a quick one from me, think I spoke to soon, a massive wee in my bed this morning, which he's never done the whole time he's been training. He comes into our bed when he wakes to have his milk and a bit of tv. I actually talked to him sternly this morning rather than turning my eye.. not sure if that was the right thing to do, cos about 2 hrs later he did a poo in his pants!!!! ARRRGGGHHHHH. Unfortunately I said that was 'naughty' too... He's been with my mil all morning so not sure how he's been there. I hope I haven't made him lose confidence... I was just so shocked about our poor, now smelly, bed that it came out before I realised what I was saying...

99-don't worry, i remember barking at ds when he blatantly(sp?) stood & weed on the kitchen floor. It's so hard not too & we've all done it! I bet he's forgotton already.

Ds was dry at night within a month of being dry in the day but he used to get in our in bed at some point during the night. More than once i remember him having the odd accident & waking up with a big wet patch. I have since bought a new duvet & a large drummed washing machine ready for when dd does this!

99redballoons · 23/05/2005 13:09

they really know how to press our buttons don't they!!

99redballoons · 23/05/2005 13:10

sorry.. that saying sounded completely wrong when I reread.. 'press our buttons'? you know 'wind us up'

Surfermum · 23/05/2005 13:25

Don't worry 99RB I probably would have done the same. I am SO grumpy first thing in the morning.

I meant to ask about how he was when I wrote this morning 99, but then B started yelling and I forgot . Still big red boy bits?

I have told B off before too, and have felt terrible afterwards - she seems to have forgiven me though. It was last week when she appeared twice in the kitchen saying wee wee, and then headed to the bathroom instead of the potty - and refused to use the toilet - I snapped and told her off for being naughty when mummy was busy....

... I went in the lounge later to find her trying to carry two full potties out to me - she had done the wee wees - told me, and then wanted to go up with me to empty them .

Wedding is pretty much set now... its Flamechick's birthday today, and her party on Wednesday though, so things are still hectic because of that!!!! Looking forward to Friday when I can relax.

99redballoons · 23/05/2005 15:20

Happy Birthday to the little ones

Sorry, forgot to say, yes, still red bits, but much better than on Sat. Have just stuck to the anti-fungal cream and have been giving him a bath morning and evening. Seems to have helped, plus a bit of nothing-on-time. Also moved from cloth to disposables at night which surprisingly has made a difference. Hopefully it's on the mend.

Has anyone signed dd's cast yet? No doubt there will be scribbles on there come Wed!

flamesparrow · 23/05/2005 21:07

There isn't much to sign at the moment - just a teeny bit that she has put a fairy sticker on!

Everyone will be let loose after photos on Saturday

99redballoons · 27/05/2005 08:53

Hi flamesparrow! I hope everything goes well for you this weekend. It's great the weather has decided to get warm just in time for your big day!

Nothing really to report other than the fungal infection seems to have finally gone. I read on another site that we should continue with the anti-f cream for 7-10days after it clears to make sure everything has gone. Wasn't told this at any point by all the gp's/paed's but sounds good advice to me! DS seems to have very good control now and can 'hold' himself till we get home if we're in the car. This is great knowing we're going away in two weeks to Devon (we're in London) and he'll have to endure the long car journey! (most likely we'll acquaint ourselves with every services along the way!)

Have a good w/e everyone. Will be thinking of you FS.

flamesparrow · 27/05/2005 17:25

Awww thanks! I'm with you on keeping on with the cream... you don't want anything nasty lurking about.

DD's arm is starting to get her down now (she wriggled out of the plaster today), and she's stopped even telling me when her nappy is full .

MRSflamesparrow · 31/05/2005 17:28

How's it going then?

We're starting up again tomorrow!!!

99redballoons · 01/06/2005 09:58

Hello hello hello mrsflamesparrow!!
So how was the weekend? Did the weather hold out? It was a bit blustery with us on Sat. but nice and sunny How's dd's arm?

I think ds has finally cracked it. He now only wee's about 4-5 times a day and they're always big ones, so he must now know how to fully control himself. The only accidents we've had have been when he's reallllllly tired.

A friend with a 2.3 yo has just started and she said her dd needs to go every 30mins! I said, yes, this is what seems to happen in the beginning and then as they get used to the feeling and control, the number of times stretches out and 1.5 months later here we are. She felt much relieved to hear that - they'd only been p-training for two days! lol

krist · 01/06/2005 10:37

my son is 2 and four months he has been dry in the day since he was 2 now he is dry at night aswell. Like you i had his potty around the house his big brother showed him what to do. There has been no "potty training" by me. when a child is ready they tell you and your daughter is telling you she is ready. I also bought a portable potty from boots about £7.00 great for out and about, but to be honest being a boy if he's desperate we find a bush quick if no toilets are available think they would be great for a girl though weeing in a bush not quite so easy. All kids are different my eldest son was 3 before he came out of nappies is now 5 and were still having accidents only became dry at night just before he started school september. good luck.

MRSflamesparrow · 01/06/2005 11:10

My godson is a 30 minute-er... we have even taken him for tests!!! He can hold it, but generally he needs a full wee every 30 mins - 1 hr!!! It drives me nuts, especially as it gives DD a cue to yell "wee wee" and follow us in.

Wedding was great - again, blustery here but brightened sooo nicely by one.

Check out me n Boy!!!

Harrizeb · 01/06/2005 12:57

NewBarnsleyGirl I haven't read the whole thread so this might have already been suggested but what about teaching her the sign for toilet? either British Sign Language or Makaton?

BSL dictionary for bathroom things bathroom then hold your mouse over the buttons and it'll give you names for each one :-) the link didn't work quite the way I expected.

Makaton sign for toilet
is brushing your left shoulder with your right hand as though you have a fly on it you want to brush off with your hand flat on your shoulder. If you say the word when you sign it she'll hear both the word and see the sign to connect the two? might help.

Hope so

Take care
H x

MRSflamesparrow · 01/06/2005 18:46

Well today has been great.

We braved the outside world in knickers, and she told me when she needed to go after lunch. We had an accident when she woke up after the car journey home (I forgot that she wakes all disoriented and needs reminding , so not her fault)... a slight leak with tickling, but she told me straight away and used the potty, and then another quick accident when we got home, and she was too excited to see daddy to stop for wee wees!!!

I'm very pleased with how today went.

99redballoons · 02/06/2005 08:57

That sounds excellent MFS! I think you've cracked it I put a disposable changing mat on ds' car seat as the same thing has happened with us. Also if I move him from the car asleep into his bed there's no chance to put pull-ups on so I have to race to him as soon as he stirs or it's all over the carpet. Think I have to wait a bit longer for the day naps to be dry, atleast for him to wait for me to help him or for him to learn how to pull down his trousers himself (we're still a long way from that).

So proud of them all...

99redballoons · 02/06/2005 09:01

Fogot to say piccies look great! And could spot dd with the cast She looked lovely, and so did you So glad it was dry for you.

99redballoons · 02/06/2005 09:04

Wow! just looked at your getting ready photos (jumped staight to the wedding ones a min ago!) and your hair is lovely. Must have taken ages..

MRSflamesparrow · 02/06/2005 11:13

The hair didn't take all that long really!! Just a very talented hairdresser

Surfermum · 02/06/2005 11:22

OMG MrsF - that is my PILs church! Do you go there or just get married there? Where do you live, must be somewhere near me (it's cool if you don't want to say on here)? You looked gorgeous too.

I've sent you a CAT

Surfermum · 02/06/2005 11:34

OK will check my inbox then!

Well dd was fine for the majority of the camping trip. No accidents until the last day, when she went completely to pot (or not) and by 10 am was in her third set of clothes and a couple more accidents later. I think she was just really, really tired. She had an accident during her daytime nap yesterday, but slept longer than normal and I forgot to get her to go before I put her down.

Hopefully we'll be back on track now.
