Help! DS removing nappy at night

DS (2.11) has been asking for ages if he can sleep with no nappy, but I have said no as his nappy is dry in the morning less than half the time. However, he has now realised that he can just take his nappy off after we have put him to bed, resulting in wet sheets... Does anyone have experience/advice??

My DS was doing this too but with a dirty nappy and was smearing it everywhere , and I had to use vests with poppers and ducktape. Drastic I know but waking up to a poo smeared child in the middle of the night . He stopped pretty sharply though.
