DD is 9 and dyspraxic ,dyslexic and possible ADD . She has gone through a lot including severe bullying and a lot of issues that she has had to deal with it. She also could not write until this January or read well (just a few basic words).

Since the end of March I have noticed a massive change in her she seems more mature and confident and thinks things through.

She has basically taught herself to read nothing I did seemed to help or the school but she just started taking books and sitting on her bed and copying the words I now have got a letter from school saying how proud and amazed they are at her progress and while they are keeping an eye on her she is now classed as one of the most confident readers in her class and all this since March!

All she does is read and yeaterday I heard her asking her little sister if she wanted her to read a story .

Sorry for bragging and gushing but I have posted so many times about sad things happening to her I just had to post this .

That is lovely to hear . You have every right to be proud of her (and yourself)

WinkyWinkola · 06/05/2009 10:19

Oh my. She's doing so blooming well. Good lass. You must be so very happy. It's amazing progress.

Shower her with treats this weekend. That's really great news.

That's brilliant! Its great when you see they can do stuff that they couldn't do before!

And you are allowed to brag and gush because that's what mums are for

SallyJayGorce · 06/05/2009 10:19

Champagne all round. I LOVE proud outbursts on MN and this is worth a big cheer! What a great little girl you have - and she clearly has a fine mummy.

That's brilliant - no wonder you're going to burst. And the handwriting with teh Dyspraxia is a hell of an achievement - what a star

WowOoo · 06/05/2009 10:20

Awww. Fab for her and people around her too.

Will make such a difference to her confidence.

I would say give her a big hug from me, but that might be a bit odd..... Oh, do it anyway!

KingCanuteIAm · 06/05/2009 10:21

Aww, having followed some of your previous threads this has made me well up! Fantastic news well done her!

Comewhinewithme · 06/05/2009 10:22

Hugs gratefully accepted .

I am going to let her choose some new books this weekend and dp is fetching her some more stationary on his way home from work tonight .

That is fantastic. Well done to your dd.

And now she will get so much pleasure and extra confidence from all the reading she will be able to do.

TigersChick · 06/05/2009 10:22

Huge well done to your DD!!
Agree that she needs an extra-special treat this weekend!

Comewhinewithme · 06/05/2009 10:24

Thankyou kingC . I didn't even notice what she was doing at first just thought she was drawing but she was just copying page after page of writing .

I know she hasn't just memorised certain books either because she now tries to read what I am typing on MN much to dp's amusement .

That is fantastic How wonderful to see such determinatation, tenancity and effort from your daughter - no wonder you and her school are proud of her. She should go far with those characteristics, as well as her newly found reading and writing skills.

Laugs · 06/05/2009 10:30

Comewhinewithme I don't know you or your DD, but I've just read this and am bursting with pride for her too!

KingCanuteIAm · 06/05/2009 10:31

Oh, does she read your MN posts out loud? That could get sticky

It is increadible what a determined child can achieve and she sounds like a very determined person. A fantastic trait to have!

Can I just say a big well done to you too (without being patronising)? Clearly you have got her through her various troubles in such a way that she has continued to grow as a person and bloom rather than go into herself, which happens to a lot of children. Great parenting!

Comewhinewithme · 06/05/2009 10:32

Thankyou . I am amazed too at her determination and really glad school are making a huge deal of it too .

She wants me to buy her The magic faraway tree so she can read it alone I read it to her a year ago and now she wants to try it alone .
