I bought some 40 by 40cm terry nappies on special offer to use when baby (due in 2 weeks - aghh) is small before she grows into shaped nappies and to use as boosters later on. The thing is, when I try any of the folds II can find on the internet the nappies seem absolutely tiny! I haven't got any experience of newborns so could someone tell me either that babies bottoms are really small or suggest some folds that might fit!
Thanks!

babies bums are very small... I do actually have a set of bambino mio newborn and a set of small wraps and prefolds for sale... they would last from birth until around 5mths or so (about 16lb i think)... the newborn are 6-11lb and the small are 11-16lb... I had my DD2 8 weeks prem and had to use prem sized nappies and have just got into the habit of using disposables and dont think i'll be using real nappies now... 3 DC's and real nappies dont seem as easy as it did when PG!!

I have been using the kite fold with a 7lb baby girl. The only problem I had with 40 cm terries is that my daughter wees through them after two hours. This isn't as much of a problem as you think as newborns do go through millions of nappies. My daughter is unbelievably fussy about having a clean nappy so I put a 40cm nappy on her before her feed (otherwise she refuses to feed) She then poos during her feed and I then change her into a diddy diaper.

Baby's bottoms are unbelivably small, but they don't stay small.

I would not necessarily rule out shaped nappies. My daughter will fit into a motherease one size nappy. The only problem is that it is a bit bulky and most newborn clothes are made to go over disposible nappies.

Thanks for that - I'm only anticipating using them for a few weeks or so (along with disposables for when they are more convenient) before going into bum genius - that's the plan anyway!
I'll just have to see how we get on!
