tactics to combat poo withholding

DD nearly 3. Recently potty trained but withholding poo. Doctor gave a lactulose super dose - that cleared it out (bless her!) but now the lower dose just seems to bloat her and she is almost doing bits of poo without her realising making her very sore and more distraught. I am pretty sure she is not actually constipated as (TMI alert!) the poo post lactulose super dose was firm for the initial bit but not dry or pebbles and then very messy with bits of that days food in which I presume the lactulose had worked on. Apart from ignoring accidents and praising poos wherever they are any other advice from fellow sufferers.

we are having this prob too. is v difficult. give lots of fruit/ fruit juice / water and praising the poos i am not sure there are that many other things you can do. give lots of opportunities each day to do them in private- whatever works for your dd.

Thanks - She has all of that and loads of fruit - problem is she is at the stage now where she won't even do it in private or in her night nappy.

we really have been through this in past few weeks. i just had to persevere and also praise just trying. that is the thing that really seems to have turned things around (but literally in hte last few days). strawberries and grapes really are the things to get things moving i reckon. it is hard. gp has recommended speaking to a health visitor to me too. it is a common problem.
