Has anyone used a mei tei from newborn?

I got one when dd was about 6 months and loved it. Am pg again and thinking will use it from birth but is it secure enough or will I need a wrap for at least the first month? I didn't like the wrap last time. I just found myself worried about dd being smothered by it and found it hard to relax. Any advice?

I have used a mei tai at about 2 weeks, but I preferred my stretchy wrap, so not often. You can easily do it though. There are some videos on you tube to show positioning just search under "mei tai newborn" or have a look on www.thebabywearer.com for more info.

i have. i liked it better than a stretchy wrap for the first few weeks because it gives more structured back support. but i did get a small bodied one specifically for a littly - i had a kozy from before but that's enormous and i think she would have got lost in it. you need to bring the straps around and tie in the middle of the body of the carrier to give the extra back support.

Thanks all, just waiting for my babywearer.com password reminder and will have a look there Jaypickle.
milenwimffalcon which one did you get? I've got a babyhawk - don't know if that would be to big for it.

my last baby was summer - this one is autumn so maybe i'll feel less paranoid about the wrap...

I used a MT from a few weeks old, I felt that I had to pad around the back of her head with a muslin though so she didn't loll about.

oops {blush]

I used my Freehand one from a week or so. I sort of wrapped the straps around her back.

Prefer a wrap though. If you do a very simple cradle carry, you may find it less of a worry?

JackBauerkillspigs · 30/04/2009 20:28

bugger it

Those instructions are great- I've not tried a hip carry with mine. I like them for the back carry with toddlers best, btu I think I will give the hip carry a go.

JackBauerkillspigs · 30/04/2009 21:46

Hip carry is ok but a bit tricky to get right. I find it digs into my neck as well if I am not careful so I tend to use a wrap for a hip carry. But you might fare better
