first poo in the loo, how do we proceed from here?

DS is 2.5, just did his first poo on the loo yesterday (on kid's loo seat). He has weed on it before but never pooed. He is totally ready to be potty trained from the point of view of capability (can completely undress himself and put his nappy in the bin and clothes in washing basket, can explain why he didn't previously want to poo on the loo 'because I'm a little boy' and now says 'I'm a big boy'.

So he got the long promised shiny sticker and chocolate button, and he proceeded to do another poo at nursery.

He also suddenly asked to wear pants (this is all yesterday), but don't want to send him off to nursery in pants until he's successfully pooed in the loo for at least a few days if not a week.

How should I go from here? Should we keep him in nappies and get him confident in asking for the loo, or should we try to go nuclear and just go for pants. I want to keep it all very low key because he has a 6 week old sister and therefore quite a lot of disruption to his life..

any tips much appreciated!

I am watching with interest - my ds is 2½ nearly also and will wee on potty or toilet but hasnt done a poo yet - our nursery wont let him go in till he has had 3 days completely with no accidents so im delaying atm. I thin like you i will encourage him to poo on potty or to tell me when he needs one.

TBH I would let him go ahead and wear pants. Show him you have confidence in him, not you're expecting him to fail. A pair or two of pooey undies isn't the worst thing in the world.

prob is he goes to nursery 3 days and they won't deal with pooey undies as he's not yet actually potty trained...

I would also go cold turkey and let him wear pants! I am that nursery won't deal with "pooey undies". Surely it's all part and parcel of looking after your child properly?

no mine ownt either - my dd wentto a diff nursery and they did most of it forme - at my new one with ds my friend was rang tocollecther 2yo as he had soiled !

they won't not change it but they basically said don't put him in pants and send him until he's more or less reliably clean..
