Time for a bit of introspection folks. What is your parenting MO?
What I tell my DS's is that I'm there to keep them healthy and safe and help them to be happy.
Of course there's more to it than that. I want to provide then with skills which will last them all their lives.
- Making their own choices and taking responsibility for the outcomes.
- Accepting the inevitability of emotions of all sorts and how important it is to be able to experience and express them appropriately.
- Empathy.
- The importance of every individual regardless of background, ability, success in life, health etc.
- Not just going with their peers but thinking things through for themselves.
- Accepting they will need to practice new things to achieve their own required level of competence.
Loads more I'm sure but I'd love to hear what you are all trying to achieve as a parent
