Probiotics for 9 week old baby?

I've got a 9 week old DS who has, for the last six weeks, suffered from tummy pains. I'm taking him to a cranial osteopath and he has recommended I give him a propbiotic. There are products available for young babies but I'm nervous. Has anyone else given probiotics to a young baby, or have any thoughts on this?

Are you BF ot FF?

Can the osteo, or your GP, recommend something for you?
Failing that this is a good one (is used by a friend of mine).

I'm BFing, although give the late feed in a bottle... Thanks parachutes, that's the one I was thinking of.

Hi eejaykay - hope all is well with you and the little man. Hope his tummy problems are resolving too - DS2 had bad trapped wind/digestive problems too and the cranial osteopath really helped with that. Keep up the Bfing and maybe try tummy massage (in clockwise direction) with palm of your hand on the tummy - seems to have helped Danny lots. If you feel up to it we have a Feb postnatal thread in the parenting section - am sure everyone would love to see you if you feel like dropping in.

If you are bf then you could take a probiotic and it will come through in your milk.

I gave probiotics (acidophillus) to DS when he was a similar age. It helped a lot with reflux and thrush (I gave it in ebm on a spoon - just the powder from the adult capsules). He needed it (I think) as I'd been on a lot of antibiotics and so he wasn't getting the right stuff from me.

I think it's worth a try as it won't harm him.
