Can you recommend a good book to answer ds 1's question of 'how will the baby come out of your tummy?'

He's 5 and has a little brother of 17 months so knows babies grow in mummy's tummy. He knows daddy gives mummy a seed and it grows with mummy's egg to make a baby. He asked the other day 'How will the baby come out of your tummy?' and 'will it hurt?'

I said yes it'll hurt a little - he said like a cut on your finger? I said yes, a little like that. (He thinks that is the most painful thing in the world )
I said we'd get a book to help him learn about how babies are born and he's looking forward to finding out.

Any recommendations?

muppetgirl - I've a ds aged 6 who is an expectant Big Brother! I bought him a book called 'What's inside your tummy mummy?' and I think it explains enough to him and in a great way too. each month is dedicated to a double page - one one side is a lifesize sketch of the size of the baby so you hold the page against your tummy and your ds can see what it looks like! There is also a few facts about the development including a handy (for me!!) size guide - eg this month your baby is the size of an orange/1L bottle of milk/ a pineapple/ a pumpkin(!!) etc

Also bought 'I'm a big brother', 'Mummy's having a baby' and 'I'm going to be a big brother'(which does mention the birth canal if I remember correctly, but in not too much detail!IFKWIM!)

Look an amazon - they have loads!

When I was looking into this for DS I thought the best ones were the Walker books series by Robie H. Harris; they do three, one for 5ish, one for 9-10ish and one for 12-13ish. Each goes into the appropriate amount of detail. I think the one you need is called 'Let's Talk: About Girls, Boys, Babies, Bodies, Families and Friends'.
