Washing BumGenius

I've got a 7 week old and want to start using my BG

I've pre-washed them once. Should I do it a few more times?

How do you wash your nappies once dirty?
Planning on dry pailing
I presume with newborn breatfed poo you put it all in wash machine and I do not need to do anything before?
Do you do a rinse cycle then just a normal wash with less powder?
Can you use liquid detergent?

Thanks in advance!

I normally only wash new nappies once as I am really impatient and can't wait to use them
I do a pre wash, then a wash at 60 with an extra rinse at the end using half the powder and dry pail and wash every two days.
I have a 22 month old and a 4 month old and find if I don't wash at 60 the 22 month old gets bad nappy rash. You would probably get away with doing a 40 wash with just breastfed pooh

I only prewashed my BGs once, unlike the hemp nappies they just need a clean and they're ready to go.
I 'dry' pail them, I say 'dry' cos they seem to sweat a bit, lovely
I don't rinse off breastfed poo, it all disappears in the wash. I do a 60 cos I just feel happier that it's all had a good semi-boiling.
I don't bother with a rinse cycle either but every 8 weeks or so I do a biological wash followed by the usual non-bio just to give them an extra clean.
I use either the Ecover liquid or Fairy, just remember not to use the normal amount, half or less does the job.

I didn't prewash our bumgenius - just expected to be changing them fairly frequently at first.

I use paper liners - liner goes in the loo (got a toddler and a baby using them), nappy goes straight in the dry nappy bucket. At the end of each day (otherwise we run out) the nappies go in the machine on a prewash, and then on a 60deg wash the minute dh gets up in the morning, ready for me to hang them on the line when I get up

I was advised by the manufacturer of Bumgenius to wash the inserts 3 times before use in order to activate the absorbency. They don't come with instructions so had to do a lot of digging!

Ooh I love my Bumgenius, I washed them three times before using them and I wash every 3 days (20 nappies), on a 60 with one fairy tablet. They come up lovely, even with the awful little baby poo!

If I used liners the poo just went up her back and ended up everywhere, so I didn't bother. You do have to 'strip' them every couple of months, wash on hot wash with no powder and rinse until no soap suds appear, gets rid of the ammonia smells etc.

My daughter is 20 months and we still use them, but have had to boost with another insert, there great!

When they are dirty, I take the insert out, wrap it up in the middle (but don't fasten them) and dry pail it, they absolutely stink but better than poo soup!!
