Ask the library staff to find out who the next user was and see if they'll contact them on your behalf. Obviously they won't identify the user to you but they might be prepared to mediate if you catch someone on a good day!

oh can they do that, will phone again in the morning to see if they will they should have more staff in then so should be able to work it out.
am so wih myself
i never normally use library comps as i take in my laptop but there was no laptop points left so had to use a comp and now i've lost everything

If you have to log in to the computers with a university/college username and password, then yes it can be done.
However, it might be referred to the IT department, or perhaps the stick could have been "removed" by someone who wasn't logged on but just saw the stick.
It's definitely worth a go though.
