I am still on UD site and looking at the fitteds. I am very tempted to buy a couple now, before I do my next lot of dying so they could be nice bright colours. But Really, they are almost as expensive as the night nappies so wondering if I would be better off ordering more night nappies and just using them in the day?

Does anybody have both an UDNN and an UD fitted to tell me how different they are? Do the fitteds take long to dry? My UDNN are usually hanging up for at least 24 hours inside before they are comepletly dry. Inserts dry fast though, its just the actual nappy mainly round the elastic that takes a while to dry.

Have ordered/enquired about quite a few more woolies! Got some longies, soakers etc coming and possibly a skirty!

Going to sell my newborn longies though when I get my camera out - they should fund at least one of the new ones as I have never used the longies - they were brand new.

JennyPenny22 · 17/05/2009 23:37

Oh yer - and that bath mat looks fab! Can I ask how you know that it is the most absorbant MF? I am trying to decide if I should get some to cut up or not - Elouise is just such a heavy wetter we don't use much MF and we are out of pockets now. And TBH I have tonnes of inserts! Might order one for my bathroom anyway! I HATE the bathmat I have now - WHY buy WHITE for a floor? Just looks filthy about an hour after coming out the wash!

treedelivery · 17/05/2009 23:45

I read it somewhere when I was obsessively looking. I think on an American site where they were discussing fabric to make nappies with.

Very at your wooly purchase.

Am desperado for a skirty - I have bought some patterns on line for longies, skirties and soakers and found a place that knits up for £2 a ball. Hurrah!!

Going on Tuesday to place 100 orders. Very excited.

What wool is best? I read merino as cashmere isn't tough enough.

Woolie types seem to rave about blue-faced Leicester [baa]. Also read that aran weight is right. Get thee to CNA, tree, it is woolly heaven there.

treedelivery · 17/05/2009 23:53

Oh yes it is isn't it. I like it here though

Blue-faced Leicester. Will look it up. Cheers mi dear!

JennyPenny22 · 18/05/2009 00:23

Yes I would ask on the wool board on CNT about any wool related questions as I think they are far more experienced with Wool. I am not expert with wool at all and have stuck to just buying preloved ones (or brand new but from indervidual sellers) because it all still confuses me!

I need to control myself! I am selling nappies but litterally the money is out of paypal within a few hours of recieving it! I just can't leave it sitting there! The stupid thing is, I have far too many nappies already and need space!

JennyPenny22 · 18/05/2009 00:37

Is anybody here still selling BBH bamboo? They are good night nappies for Talia and good day nappies for Elouise so think it would be a wise investment as I only have one!!!

afterglow · 18/05/2009 08:51

Cotton nappies do seem slow to shift. I am finally going to stop buying cotton nappies, not matter how pretty, as the hard water here does them no favours and they are not as absorbent as bamboo or as fast to dry as microfibre. So if anybody wants a large purple Sandys, worn 2 or 3 times only .. (having done such a good job selling cotton in that last sentence!)

I know that this is going to sound like an un-necessary worry, but does anybody else stay clear of microfibre that isn't specifically sold for nappy purposes? It's just that when I see "antibacterial" quoted for a microfibre product, I instantly wonder if it's been sprayed/soaked/made with something antibacterial rather than it being an intrinsic property of microfibre. I know that bamboo is naturally antibacterial for example. So though I'll happily use m/f cloths for cleaning I'd be uneasy about putting one in dd's nappy. Can anyone tell me that I'm worrying un-necessarily and that the way is open for me to stuff dd's pockets with cheap lidl cloths?

swampster · 18/05/2009 09:28

I feel exactly the same way about microfibre - though that bath mat nearly changed my mind.

treedelivery · 18/05/2009 10:16

hmmm - I think the microfibre is considered anti bacterial. But having said that the microfibre I bought didn't say it was anti b so at any rate it woun't have been sprayed.

I must try and find that stuff about the properties of mf cloth. I will search as soon as I have time.

fwiw, 2-3 layers of mf with a single hemp/bamboo layer makes a kickass soaker. The mf holds th ewee, but any that squeezes out hits the hemp. The hemp dreis ok as it is one layer ponly, and the mf is nearly dry out of the washer. Huurah!

JennyPenny22 · 18/05/2009 17:21

I got some lovely woolies in the post today! Got a large soaker that is lovely and girly, although a bit bobbly but I don't mind that. And some pink longies that are so nice and look fab on her BUT The longies are too big! The soaker fits perfectly and will look fab under dresses (not so sure how it will work with trousers as her trousers are already very tight because she has short legs.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 18/05/2009 18:02

just popping on to say hello! bit of a rainy afternoon here - not the best for a holiday! but we were out at a lavender farm/centre this morning in the lovely sunshine, so can't moan too much about weather! We've just had a lazy afternoon in the cottage and need to cook some dinner now! we're surviving the disposable napies - but not enjoying them! lol Will be soooo glad to be back home to cloth on Saturday night! haha

hope everyone is ok! xx

Hi, I posted a few days ago about my DD's nappy rash. Many thanks for the replies. Her nappy rash really is v bad I've switched back to disposables temporarily so I can use lots of ointments. I've been using Canesten, Metanium and Bepantham, not all at the same time I hasten to add!!

I've also switched from Persil non bio to SurCare. On closer inspection it seems that Persil Non Bio has perfume in it! I've also taken the advise on here and done an extra rinse.

So my washing method today has been

rinse,
wash hot
wash cold
extra rinse

Anything else I can do? I feel so very disappointed that she's ended up with such bad nappy rash having initially been so excited about using BumGenius.

Come and reassure me

swampster · 18/05/2009 21:40

I know people swear by Metanium but I think it was responsible for the worst case of nappy rash DS1 ever had. I find Sudocrem or Lansinoh work for us.

Have you tried lots of nappy-free time?

ellielou02 · 18/05/2009 21:43

Hello ladies, Sorry been awol for ages DH is away so been busy busy busy . heinzsight I used persil and DD2 cam up in a lovely rash so went back to fairy pronto.

I have a question I recently got some of the new tots bots pockets in cotton, they are lovely but keep wicking I think they are just a bit gaping round the legs which is weird as dd2 has very chubby legs, has anyone else had this problem??

twoclimbingboys · 18/05/2009 22:55

jenny - sorry for steering you to the UD sight. Fabric choices are in a menu down the right side, 'fabric options', but don't look it wll end up denting your paypal

ellie lou - do you mean the cotton tots fitteds, I didn't get on with them or find them very absorbent but they didn't wick under a motherease airflow wrap.

heinz - it may be worth a trip to the GPs for the rash if those creams aren't working. I have used lansinoh on tree's and swampster's advice and it is excellent (thanks both of you)

JennyPenny22 · 18/05/2009 23:41

I used some free samples of persil the other day (not on my nappies though) and as soon as I opened the machine I could smell the perfume in it and I gave the rest of the samples away. I wouldn't use it TBH.

I am a bit annoyed about my lil stinkies. They did warn me there was a delay (I think due to morning sickness) but it has been months now! I ordered 3 custom BTP pockets and we don't even use pockets anymore! I have kept my BG for "easy" nappies but other than that, they are all going. Although I do have an UDOS on the way too, which I ordered just before we stopped using pockets.

In fact, my UD order has been a while - I ordered at the end of RNW? Not that I actually need any of it! lol. In fact, if it were to wait till DH goes back to work next week, he won't ever know! heheh!

I am afraid I have been ill today and I am REALLY sorry but I haven't managed to get to the post office yet! I will try and get there tomorrow .

Natty, I would love the WNNN - maybe I would be better off giving you as refund rather than paying you the same amount as what you paid me? That way we both avoid fees etc?

treedelivery · 19/05/2009 00:01

heinz - trip to dr incase of thrush?

HeinzSight · 19/05/2009 11:58

thanks for all your advise. Her rash is a fair bit better this morning. All the nappies have had the Persil non bio washed well and truly out of them.

Another thing I was wondering, her nappy rash also seemed to coincide with me using liners. Is there a chance the liners have irritated her?

It's really hard to do nappy free time in our house because it's all wooden floors downstairs and as soon as she's had an accident she slips really badly on it and bangs herself. Going to be difficult when it comes to potty training. Am thinking about trying to pursuade DH to go back to carpet in the lounge!

Thanks again for your help

treedelivery · 19/05/2009 11:59

What liners are you using? And do they feel dry when you first open her nappy?

HeinzSight · 19/05/2009 12:01

I'm not sure what they are tbh, I was sent a free roll with my nappy order from softbots. Will try and find a link. They don't feel dry no, and often they're scrunched up in her nappy.

HeinzSight · 19/05/2009 12:02

There's only two sorts of liners on her website, one of them here

treedelivery · 19/05/2009 12:08

Hmm, you see I don't do paper - but many swear by it.

If the layer against the skin is wet, or scrunched up and wet, that to me would spell nappy rash. Especially scrunched up at the back, the bubba is siting/lying on a cusion of wee paper.

I love fleece for this, as it takes wee away and feels warm adn at worst, clammy. Maybe give one a go? They are pretty cheap to buy.

But, as I say, loads of people love their papaer liners, and I am still only dealing with bf poo so haven't tested my fleece love to the max yet!

HeinzSight · 19/05/2009 12:35

Thanks so much treedelivery , what you're saying makes perfect sense. Where would be a good place to buy fleece liners from?

saggyoldclothcat · 19/05/2009 13:10

Hello! I'm new to this thread, but have been using cloth for 5.5 yrs (not on myself I hasten to add!)

Most nappy sellers do fleece liners, or you can just get a cheap fleece throw or blanket and cut it up yourself! (fleece doesn't fray so no need to hem.)

We only use fleece - so much better at keeping baby's bum dry and also works out much cheaper in the long term. Just don't use too much cream with them as it can block the fleece.
