Rewards for potty using- how long for?

Have been potty training for a week and it seems to be going well- 3 days with no accidents Problem is we think the success is down to the chocolate button after each success- one for wees and two for poos.

When do we stop the treats? DS is asking for them when still in full flow! Don't want to risk undoing all the success so far.

I kept up the reward, also chocolate buttons, for a couple of months. Faded it out gradually.

To begin with dd was asking for reward before she'd even sat on potty, but after a few weeks she sometimes could be disracted, and if she didn't mention it we didn't give. We then started saying we's ran out and would have to buy some more. These occasions became more and more frequent until we said, 'no, you're a big grown up girl who does her wees so well on the potty, you don't need a button!' with a big smile and hoped she'd go for it, thankfully she did!

We got to the stage where almost all wees were in potty but there were still a few accidents and the reward after each wee wasn't helping to cut those out. Someone on here suggested I rewarded for a full dry day instead to eliminate the last few accidents and it seems to be working. We've only been doing it about 10 days but she already hasn't asked for a present a few times and has been happy with praise so I'm confident we'll be able to phase them out soon.

Thanks hmmsleep- will defo try the 'we've run out' before long.

claireybeeinmyeasterbonnet, will also be using your advice for moving to rewarding full dry days maybe next week and may accidently forget the reward on occasions to see what happens.

DS only had 1 accident at nursery today, and used the toilet for wees too. Keeping our fingers crossed!
