Where am I going wrong with the Ergobaby?

I have one for my DD aged 9 months. Each time I use it within 30 mins my shoulders are killing me. I try loosening and tightning the straps but I can't seem to get it right. The DVD makes it look so easy! I know it comes highly recommended so am hoping someone here might be able to set me straight...?

Are you wearing her on your back? My ds is 10 mo and it is far comfier on my back than on my front. I also find it comfier to wear on my hips rather than waist iyswim. Don't give up on it just yet I love my ergo and can honestly carry ds all day without any pain whatsoever.

tighten the waist strap so most of the weight is transferred to your hips.

Yes, sounds like you have the "waist" strap too high up - it should be more on your hips. Back is comfier than front at this age, but you should be able to do either.

Also, when you put your DD in, before you fasten the shoulder straps, grab the body of the carrier behind her back and pull it upwards while slightly bouncing up and down yourself. This will ensure she's sitting nice and bum down in the pouch - at her age the carrier should come most of the way up her back if not up over her head slightly.

Are her knees higher than her bum? They need to be for both your comfort.

I wear it round my waist as I am 6' tall, but I don't think it could be any tighter round there. I am wearing her on my front, so perhaps I should graduate to th back. Do you find th sleep hood works ok on the back? She normally falls asleep and I was worried she will have no support for her head.

Another thought, if you are wearing her on your front make sure the back strap is as far down as it will go- much comfier. If you are by yourself, the easiest way to do it is to make the straps as long as they will go, fasten the back strap, and then put the whole lot over your head, put baby in and tighten. Much easier than reaching behind your back and trying to do it up.

The sleep hood will work but you'll have to ask someone to help you with it ime.

Thanks for all the advice.

Mrsboring - I will experiment with wearing it lower. Also this morning she was definitely sticking too far out the top by the sound of it. Not sure about the knee bum thing.
