Just wondered on the average age for this. Ds has noticed that most others his age say 'Mum' now and requested that I ask on Mumsnet. I have told him he can call me whatever he likes (within reason!).

My Ds is nearly 9 and still calls me Mummy. When were around his friends he tries to call me Mum but finds it hard to keep it up!

Can't remember. I think they ran together from first speech. They still use both depending on circumstances and they are 8 and 13. I don't understand people like my sil who won't answer to Mum until her children reach a certain age....

My DS1 is 2.9 and has just been through a phase of calling me 'mum' - I assume he picked it up at nursery Although he did call me 'mamma mia' the other day and I have absolutely no idea where that came from - I can't imagine that they have conversations about Abba songs/films at nursery

Anyway, thankfully he is back to mummy now!

DS1 was about 5 when he started calling us mum and dad, but DS2 was only 2.5. He is nearly 6 now and it still makes me chuckle when I hear it - too grownup
