........Dh has neither and hates both with a passion but hasnt told ds this!

I have my ears pierced and told ds how much it hurt but without making a big deal about it!

He has told me today that he would like an earring and a tattoo when he is older.

He is going to be chavvy isnt he? and a hoodie? eeeeeeek!!!!

DH and I are not engaging in the conversation much. Just making noises.....he is the quietest sweetest nearly 7yr old you could ever wish to meet.

He'll grow out of it. Show him some saggy tattoo's on you tube, this will put him off.

DSM · 05/04/2009 12:43

Earrings and tattoos don't make someone chavvy.

chocolepew · 05/04/2009 12:44

My DH has both and he's not a chav thanks very much

lol
when DD started school she came home on the first day and said "I'm going to marry Theo, he drinks beer and smokes tabs"

the innocence of children

wotulookinat · 05/04/2009 12:54

I have both and I'm not a chav.

MrsMcCluskey · 05/04/2009 12:55

Both my DS's want tatttoos and motorbikes.
DS 2 wants to smoke cigarettes.
I have no idea where it comes from as DH and I do none of these things and dont like them either.
I just ignore it.
At 6 and 8 I hope they grow out of it.

GossipMonger · 05/04/2009 12:55

LOL! No offense intended.

Just not keen myself. Bad use of the word chav.

Well, I think that you need to put your personal prejudices aside and let your DS become his own person.

Though I would steer clear of tattoos and piercings for a while, he is only 7

wotulookinat · 05/04/2009 12:58

He'll probably chnage his mind anyway and become a really straight-laced person

hotcrosspurepurple · 05/04/2009 13:03

get him some of those transfers that wash off

kidcreoleandthehotcrossbuns · 05/04/2009 13:07

I wouldn't worry...it's not like he's going to head down to the local tattoo parlour and get a snake on his neck is it...he's only 7 ffs!
Me and my DP both have tattoos...we're definately not chavs! I have my ears pierced and DP used to have his ears pierced in his younger days...8 in one ear!!
But I wouldnt dream of piercing my DC's ears!

applepudding · 05/04/2009 22:02

As long as he's not asking for them now I wouldn't worry.

smudgethepuppydog · 06/04/2009 08:53

DS (now aged 17) wanted tattoos and earing at the age of 7, he didn't get them and now has no interest in either.

Buy him a magnetic stud and some fake tattoos and forget aout it all for a few years.

Gateau · 06/04/2009 15:04

Ignore. It's just a passing phase. He's just doing a bit of dabbling in all this new, exciting stuff.
And if.when when he's older and comes out with this kinda stuff, ignore again. The more you rise to it the more he'll go on about it.
My brother and SIL have a bit of this with my 15-year-old nephew. One day he says he wants an earring, the next it's a motorbike. They just nod and say something like, "Really? That would be nice."
Allure gone.

solidgoldshaggingbunnies · 06/04/2009 15:07

It's completely illegal for anyone under 18 to have a tattoo, and though I suppose a 15-year-old with a face id could get one, no one is going to get busy on a 7 year old. DOn't get yourself in such a tizzy, by the time he is a teenager tattoos may be as unfashionable as golfing jumpers.
IN the meantime, get him some of those stick-on/wash-off ones to play with, they can't do him any harm.
