Why do I keep failing with pocket nappies?

I have a very large - 17lb - 13w 2d old son. I also have three pointy tab Fuzzis, "small" (don't seem that small to me and Max is biiiig) and a couple of Wonderoos.

The Fuzzis leak every time I use them and I just cannot for the life of me work out how to put the Wonderoo on the right setting for him despite following endless diagrams on the web. It's a real shame as I love the soft fleecey leg gusset (calm down woman lol!). The one time I gave it my best shot and put the thing on him we had instant leaks. I haven't forked out for the official inserts for either but I have endless boosters, both the snap-in MEOS type and shinpad-shape Junior Joy type ones.

Can anyone point out where I'm going wrong, please? If I could get the hang of these then that would be five more naps I could bring into use so I'd really like to sort it. Thanks

I haven't got on with wonderoos for ds2 who is 17 weeks. We also seem to get instant leaks from those. However I did use them on ds1 but only on the large setting and I had no problems so I guess it's either down to body shape, or it's the reducing them in size that is somehow causing the leaking.

As for fuzzis. I love them and found them great for both mine. The only time I had a leak with ds1 I think it was because I had overstuffed the nappy and the leg cuffs were rolling out (does that make sense?).

I have never bought original inserts for pocket nappies. I have always found folded terries to be fine for my heavy wetting boys.

I have read on a previous thread that the wonderoos are known for wicking from the frilly bit.

Small fuzzis go up to 13lb max - so he is probably too big for them. He would probably need two inserts in each aswell.

Not a wonderoo fan.

Try not to overstuff the pockets - as they do tend to gape at the leg.

As for inserts - any should be fine really - i do tend to use two fuzzi ones.

Small prefolds are great for stuffing!

I think we've just missed our window with the Fuzzis - they were too big for him at first and now too small. Ho hum. Might give it one more whirl.

Shame Wonderoos are known for leaking as they seem to be great on paper. I'll hang onto them til he's bigger and carry on with terries for now. Just need to crack the wrap problem.

I never got on with pocket nappies but I had a heavy wetter who did power wees, they just don't suit all babies IME

I use pockets 90% of the time at the moment (I have a big mixture but no fuzzis as I only have onesize) and we get on really well with them. Wonderoos are def not my fav and I definatly think you need the proper insert for them as they are so much wider than most pockets.

My DD is a very heavy wetter too (she is 15 months) and we still manage to get a good length of time out of them. There is no way a cotton terry would even give her an hour so in comparison they are great.

Don't really know what to suggest as I haven't used pockets on a baby that young yet (my 2nd baby due in the next few weeks and will do then).

  • Are you using any creams?
  • How do you wash? What with and how much?
  • Is the insert soaking wet or are there dry patches?
