hello
just wondered if anyone had any advice, my baby is 7 months old, I had 3rd degree tear with him v nasty lots of stitches only just healing now and still painful going to toilet, but all consultants say I'm fine and have healed well. I may be crazy but I would really like to start trying for baby number 2 and just wondered whether there are any health problems relating to having babies close together after such a nasty tear, has anyone else had problems? thanks

Some consultants offer a section after a third degree tear but it really is your choice, especially if you feel it has healed well. The problem would be the scar tissue of course and the potential for further damage.

Hi

I have had my second after a 3rd degree tear and forceps delivery, I was offered a section and was undecided up until 36 weeks, I went for a normal delivery in the end and it was a lot better as I knew what to expect and could control it more rather than just going with whatever they said I did get a small tear again but it didn't need stitches and healed a lot quicker.

Hi, there and thanks for all your advice. I have decided to get myself checked out by the consultant first to see what they say. Hopefully all will be ok and can start trying for number two soon

I had a third degree tear with DD and gave birth to DS 18 months later by planned C-Section. I had an ultrasound scan of the scar tissue about 3 months after DD's birth and was told that there was lots of muscle damage so the consultant recommended a section for future deliveries so I knew where I stood even before I was pregnant again. The section was fine, and I healed really quickly, far better than the tear. Lots of threads on this on the Childbirth topic.
