Bath DC morning or evening - what do you do?

I've been giving DC a bath in the morning, but I wondered if most people bathed their DCs in the evening instead as part of an evening routine, which DH can taken part in, and which tells DC it's time for sleep? What did you find better (and was it different when you went back to work)

PS tell me gently if am a slummy mummy who should be giving their child a bath twice a day......

When DS was a newborn, and for the first few mths, just bathed as and when. Now at 13mths I bath him every night at 6pmish as part of bedtime routine. Not convinced he sees it as any kind of sleep cue, but I think it's nice for him to go to bed fresh and clean. He tends to rub his Dinner into his hair. It's one less thing to do in the morning.

DH bathes DS in the evenings. I think it's more relaxing for him that way and he gets to spend time with his Daddy after work into the bargain.

I've always bathed mine in the evening. When they were little it was a good part of their bedtime routine -calming them down, letting them know it was almost time for bed. Now they're a bit older evening baths are crucial as a)there is not enough time before school/work and b)they often come home from school filthy so a bath or shower before bed is a necessity. Far too lazy to do it twice a day and if they are cleanish then every other day.

Evening with Lavender essence (v. weak) ..... knocks them for six never had any probs getting them to sleep!

a mixture of both for pre-school children, evenings only for school age.

I like to bath my 2 year old in the mornings so I can wash her wild hair and attempt to tame it into some kind of normality for the day.

twice or three times a week in the evening. But Sunday morning is hair wash time. I can't even being to think about washing DDs hair in the evening, she freaks too much. She is fine with it in the morning when she is not too tired.

morning for my 6mo. knackers her out for a nice morning nap (and cup of tea for me). don't have time in evenings as getting dinner on etc and dp works late.

Have always bathed Ds in the evening from being very small. He associates it with bedtime: bath, milk, teeth, story, bed, wine (for me)

I bath DS in the evenings but before tea. he does tend to wear his food hence still using a cover up bib at 2yrs 9months.

Used to do it after tea as a wind down routine but he was a nightmare it was more of a wind up routine!!

Now he has his bath and chills out in his PJs in front of the tv until teatime at the table with us. Followed by stories and bed. It is our routine and works for us but every family and child is so different.

Gateau · 30/03/2009 10:36

Both.
Depending on how much tine I have/how late it is after tea, I bath DS several times a week in the evening. If not, I do it on several mornings - when I am off work.
Hair is washed just once a week - usually in the morning. It only needs washed once a week and DS HATES having it done.

DH baths our two dc's in the evening before bedtime. I think it's nice that he can spend some time with them and it means I can sit on the computer tidy up a bit, while they're upstairs
Certainly don't have enough time in the morning before school.

kidcreoleandthehotcrossbuns · 30/03/2009 10:44

Usually in the evening before bed but if it's got too late and they need one I'll do it first thing in the morning instead.

I'm afraid I don't manage both every day.....but I always make sure eldest DC has one in the morning cos they are still not dry at night and I'd hate for them to go to school not clean.....

Sometimes I manage a nightime one too - but not always...I make sure they have one when they have clean sheets - don't know why but its more I think because I like having a bath before clean sheets myself - its a little ritual!

I am worried about what others think alot so thats why I want my DCs to be bathed in the am - then I can rest assured before they leave me they are fragrant and squeeky!!!
