Hi,

I have just created a new group for multilingua families ( www.bigtent.com/groups/familingua ) and I thought most of you would be interested.

Familingua is a group for MULTILINGUAL families which offer many features, including:

  • Members can VERY EASILY identify and contact other families speaking the same "minority" language in a specific area with a view to meet in real life
  • Members can join a PRIVATE subgroup of LOCAL families speaking the same "minority" language. This subgroup allows to share local information related to the additional language, discuss online with other local families speaking the additional language about future meetups or other topics of their choice, edit and share a commun calendar for local language-specific events. All of these subgroup's feature facilitate real-life meetups and the development of a local community around a common "minority" language
  • Forums, Calendars, ...

If you are a multilingual family, we would like to invite you to join.

Looking forward to welcoming you on Familingua soon.

Well, that was a waste of time. You can only join if you put in your time zone and the time zones are all in the USA...

Shitemum · 07/04/2009 15:54

Lucille - just in case you come back to MN and read this - why if you live in London can I only sign up for Familialingua if I type in a US time zone?

I would really like to be part of a group like the one you have set up!

Am feeling frustrated by this!

sorry, Familingua, not Familialingua...

I signed up from France - don't think I had to make up a time zone - Shitemum have you got any sort of script blocking turned on?

Shitemum · 07/04/2009 16:00

Oh, thanks.
I don't know, it only gave me a list of US timezones, no other options...will have another look...

Shitemum · 08/04/2009 00:08

Ok, I managed to register by putting a US timezone and then was able to choose the country I'm in from a menu.
There are only 16 members in the UK so far so it would be good if more people signed up.
It looks like it'll be a good way of finding people who speak your language that live in your area.

Hi,
Sorry for not having been able to help last week. I am a full-time working mum and I do this group in my spare-time, so, I try to do my best but I can obviously not match professional websites ;o).
Anyway, thanks for your perseverance, your feedback and for further promoting the site after you joined to encourage other to join. Thanks also lummox for helping in the meantime.
I thought I had added the timezone issue in the email members receive to join, but apparently the change wasn't saved. I have added a note about it and I hope people will no longer have difficulties joining because of this.
All, continue joining the group, you will see it offers a very easy way to find other local families with the same language than you.

Hi,

I too tried to register with this email address www.bigtent.com/groups/familingua and got the us time zones.

I have two boys who are bilingual Portuguese/English 7yrs and 5yrs.

I will check back here to see if there is some reply so I can try again.

Thanks
Audrey

Hi,

Sorry I am a bit slow. I did just choose any timezone and now have registered...

Thanks
Audrey
