Clueless.................please help me with my AIOs (BG, Ittis, Blueberry)

Dd2 is about 6lb 10oz, I've just bought:

2 x Bumgenius one size pocket
2 x Itti bitti d'lish - small aio
2 x Blueberry minky pocket

They didnt come with instructions (except the BG) so I don't know where to start.

I put one of the itti bittis on her today as they looked 'ready to go'. It was fab, beautiful fit and really slim.

Up until now I've been using Sandys & MEA wrap. One wrap lasts all day, is this what you do with pockets as well? Do I just take the stuffing out and re-stuff?

Also, I know I'm supposed to wash nappies a few times before use... does this apply to the outer as well?

I'm sure I have more questions but I'll wait and see how these go first .

No, with pockets you need a fresh wrap everytime I am afraid. They dry super fast though.

I would have thought you will be fine just washing it all once to get the factory chemicals etc off and go ahead. Might not be maximum absorbancy for a few washes but for a baby that size you honestly won't need it and microfibre (which is why the inserts are) doens't need much pre washing.

Sorry, just read that you have blueberrys. Have they come with the combo inserts? If so, it is hemp which needs a few washes. BUT you might get away with it with such a young baby. The worst that would happen is you would need to change more often to start with till you get full absorbancy.

This is why I prefer preloved nappies - they are already pre washed

Thanks soon2be, seems such a shame to wash those lovely wraps after only one use, not to mention expensive.

The blueberrys do have the combo inserts but I think I'll use the BG inserts with them until she's bigger as they're quite bulky.

The plan is to test this little lot then when I know what I like I'll move onto pre-loved.

Well I will admit to reusing my BBOS sometimes without washing but it is not generally the done thing. With snap-in Ittis you can 100% reuse the outer, just snap in a new insert, this is why I love Ittis so much. However, with AIOs where the padding is sewn into the back and there's just a fleece tongue then you can't, which is why I got rid of my AIO relatively quickly, although it did have its pros.

Oh, and yes to pre-washing just to get the factory dirt off but I don't always do that unless I can see it has a residue. Your LO is so tiny that although the inserts won't be up to any sort of absorbency you'll still be able to use without a wash, just be aware that you'll need to change it much sooner.

soon2befamilyof4 · 16/03/2009 22:24

Its because they arn't just wraps, the wee goes all over the fleece lining so it needs to be washed iyswim? You should take the insert out before washing too so it gets a proper clean. (I hate doing this and have some mommy touch which you don't need to do this with and love it!).

By the way, I have no idea about the ittis as I have never used one so might not be the same. I seem to remember somebody saying you can change the inner once or twice on them but TBH I haven't really got a clue! They are not pockets are they if I remember rightly? So might be different.

If you are finding things bulky at this stage you can use things like microfibre cleaning cloths (VERY cheap from tesco). The inserts are needed as baby grows but at that age you shouldn't have that much wee and have enoght poo to need to change frequently anyway!

It doesn't need to be expensive to wash the nappy at every use. When you have enough nappies you can do a full load, or in the meantime you can do with other washing which I know a lot of people do (I usually rinse first if I do this - on a rinse cycle). And the pocket nappies don't take up much space so you can get lots in.

Plus, you only use HALF the amount of washing powder for nappies as you usually would.

If you are not going to use the blueberry insert for now, I would put it in with your washing a few times so it is ready when you need it without conciously needing to pre wash iyswim?

Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhh........ now I'm getting it! It sounds like the itti bittis are really the ones for me - thanks for clarifying th difference lollipopmother .

I'm starting to understand how you all get so addicted , definitely nice to have a selection.

Some great advice in your last post soon2be, thanks.

The onlt reason I haven't gone and tried an itti is because I like onesize nappies. Mainly because I will soon have 2 in nappies but also because you don't have to keep changing the sizes or worry about fit. If I saw one going cheap I would definatly give one a go.
