HELP
PLEASE

Exactly how are you ment to get a two year old to take medicine when they really really REALLY wont.

Have been to Drs twice today once for my back and then for DD. She's been swabbed for scarlet fever poor thing and on antibiotics.

Except I can't get her to take them at all (it does taste pretty foul to be honest !).

Have tried bribery & corruption, cajouling, hilarity hmm, spoon and syringe.

TBH I've never really had much success with her even with straight forward old calpol (and we've tried a verity of different ones of different flavour with no greater sucess) but never really needed to get something inside her before now.

DS was always pretty good in comparison.

Any suggestions welcome

You have my deepest sympathy! My DD2 has to take all sorts of meds for ongoinhg health problems and it is a challenge.

I first try disguise and mix her meds in with sugar solution to improve taste etc. I also encourage her to give them to herself as this sometimes does the trick (but she is older than your DD).

If this doesn't work then I sit DD on my knee and put her right arm between my left arm and my ribs. I then hold her left arm in my left hand. I give her the medicine in short bursts in the side of her mouth and then gently squeeze her nostrils to encourage swallowing.

Yup -- profiterole is right. You have to resort to torture sometimes....

Sad but true.

I've tried the hold & syringe method a few times but never in quite this style !

Will try giving it a go although am slightly hampered by being 36wks gone with DC3 and suffering some serious back/pelvic pain these last two weeks which makes any restraining/picking up difficult let alone of a struggling toddler
