DD really doesn't want to sit on potty or toilet trainer seat. Should I call it quits this early?

Just started trying potty training for first time today with pants and potty and/or toilet trainer seats with DD who's 2.7 He's been screaming and getting very upset when we suggest he might want to sit on either. He's previously been very happy sitting in potty when dressed, or sitting his toys in there, loves I Want My Potty etc. Pre-planned bribes of chocolate buttons and stickers aren't working. He sat for 2 periods of 30 seconds but wasn't happy at all. We've had four wees in pants/over the floor so far. Is this normal for this stage of the proceedings, or should we be expecting him to at least be up for trying the potty or toilet seat out? I don't want to give up too soon and hence make the next attempt potentially trickier, because of his negative associations. That said, obviously I don't want to make him miserable, upset and resistant to the whole thing. Any advice would be very gratefully received....with thanks

Will he sit on the potty wearing just his pants or nappy?

Why did you start? Were there any pointers that he was ready? Because it sounds to me as if he isn't. I'd go back to nappies and wait a couple of months.

he'll sit in his pants today. For the last few days he's been getting (seemingly) very excited about the toilet trainer seats and has spent a fair amount o ftime sitting on them in his clothes, reading books with me and chatting etc. He always tells me before he's about to do a poo, and has done for 3 of 4 months. He also wants to be changed pretty immediately after doing one. I've been holding off trying potty training 'cause I've got a DD 8 months and couldn't quite face it till now, to be honest.

Well, we're officially back in nappies...I guess we should just leave potties, seats, books, buttons and bribes on hand for any time the urge should take him to try one out in the future?... with the odd invitation from us every now and then, to see how he responds....ah well, at least we can leave the house at some imaginable point now.
